I understand there are concerns about tourism and habitats, but I am committed to implementing compensation measures, including revitalising the area with a biodiversity centre and eco-tourism opportunities. Moreover, I am offering higher rent to the City Hall, which directly benefits our community.

I was in favour of Option One ( Building the wind farms ). In my opinion it is the best possible solution for this region. From an economic point of view the value of the houses would increase and it would benefit the area. Moreover, we would be shifting towards a renewable source of energy that is long lasting and generating more energy due to the windy conditions of the area. Cloud cover in the area would not favour other options like Solar Energy. Moreover, looking at examples from The United States ( Rhode Island ) and Scotland, tourism has increased after implementing wind farms, hence this would positively impact the tourism department but it is a gamble too. Lastly, the only problem faced is by the environmentalist and population of the area as they worry about noise pollution and habitat loss. To counter that, we have hired a high tech company which would install wind turbines that produce less sound and these would be constructed away from the houses. Moreover, to conserve the habitats and prevent biodiversity loss, we would be creating a biodiversity park and conserve the affected species and focus on their reproduction.

The options were quite challenging as on one side we have option for renewable energy while on the other hand there was threat of biodiversity and habitat loss. As we need energy and also need to save the enviornment, in this way it shows how challenging it can be in real scenario to opt for any one.

I argued that combating fires is more urgent and effective than relying only on prevention, because it protects lives, forests, and the economy in real time. Since Santana is already economically struggling, this option is better as it avoids greater losses from uncontrolled fires.

I really enjoyed this discussion, as I got to learn a lot about the issue and also hear different perspectives and opinions from other people. After much back and forth between the two parties they agreed on some common measures to execute, like public awareness sessions. And the rest of the budget be split 60-40 between prevention and firefighting. The root idea was that prevention will reduce the frequency of forest fires but due to its is inevitability there need to be firefighters ready to combat such disasters

Being the director of the forest management company. I strongly believe that Santana needs to strengthen its prevention strategies for forest fires, as it is not only economically viable but also a crucial measure to take for the long term sustainability of the county. Climate change will worsen over time, and if we don’t work towards prevention, the forest fires will become more frequent and intense over time. After the discussion, we have reached to the conclusion that since preventive measures don’t require excessive amounts of funds, we will invest 40% in prevention and 60% in combat of forest fires. Preventive measures would include stricter implementation of camp fire and firework laws, community engagement to clean the forest at least once a year. Cutting off dead ends and using controlled fires to get rid of the dry biomass that may cause extreme fires in future.

It was an insightful experience to debate upon firework management and considering multiple perspectives to arrive on a conclusion.

I had a dual role; I was playing a role of the local inhabitant who’s a physician as well as a forest engineer as the representative of the environmental organisation. My stance for both the roles earned towards prevention. As part of my role of physician, I truly believe that prevention is better than cure just like in medicine. These are 90%human caused and 10%natural so whenever a fire starts it’s mostly from a private owned land so then why do taxpayers like myself suffer as a result of the carelessness of the land owners. As a forest engineer I think there should be more majors for preventing fires. One great strategy is installs species of trees which are more resistant to fire like oak instead of pine and eucalyptus. I believe that not all fires are by human action but also a natural process of the renewal of vegetation and so both are important and the middle ground perspective leaning more towards prevention should be taken forward.

My role was to combat forest fires. My main focus was on post fire recovery which means restoration and reforestation after the fire. I believe that prevention of forest fires is fairly not possible due to the rise in global temperatures and prolonged droughts in some regions. Combating forest fires can be done through proper funding on firefighting tools and man power, which is required when there is fire. Furthermore restoration techniques like reforestation is necessary to cope up with the damage done.

I played the role of a Specialist in wind energy. As a specialist, I had to seek technical support, where, despite the environmental loss and tourism impact, I suggested a site for installing a wind farm. But I personally think that we should not only look for the profits but also consider the overall impact.

Nadia Afsheen

I played role as "representative of an environmental organisation ".My purpose was to create a project called "Sustainable forest" in Santa Clara to recover the eroded land.As an environmental representative, I believe by bringing this project we will restore the degraded oak forest, reduce erosion, and protect water and soil. Forests provide habitat for 80% of terrestrial species, so recovering this land will greatly promote biodiversity and provides habitats for local species. At the same time, it creates sustainable benefits for people such as walking trails, picnic areas, and eco-tourism opportunities that bring jobs and learning. Nurseries for native plants will also generate local jobs while strengthening our cultural connection to the land.Unlike short-term urban projects, this option offers long-lasting value for both nature and our community.

Ali Hasnain| Student Body representative, HYRULE COUNTY

I represented the students body of Hyrule county in public discussion which aimed to choose btw two land plots for wind farm, one in Ortega and another one in Ticor valley. I as a student and future generation of the area spoke in favour making the farm in ticor valley. Despite it being an area with lower wind speed (making the farm less costt effective) I still chose it because it had no significant natural resources and pose less threat to biodiversity and ecological loss as compared to Oretega Valley. The lease of land in ticor valley will also economically benefit the city council. The opportunity cost of making wind farm in Ortega was much greater than the benefit, it destroyed birds and bat species, affected tourism and had higher ecological consequences.

Future is for us so we should be the ones that make the decisions, because we are ready to face the consequences of our decisions rather than facing the consequences for the decisions we never made.
