My experience in doing the Stroop test was almost exactly as predicted. Fortunately for me, I have heard about the Stroop Effect prior to this particular test, so I knew what to expect. The first test was completed fairly quickly, without any error. During the second test where the color and meaning are incongruent, I found myself taking much longer to register what I was reading. This test is interesting and fun to complete!

Interestingly my second test was only 2 seconds longer than my first test. I'm not sure if it's because I've seen this test before or what, but I expected my second time to be significantly longer than it was. I thought that I would struggle more to read the words when looking at the colors, but that did not happen for me! I mixed up only a couple words and slowed down a little toward the end of the list. I can't wait to see how everyone else did.

I have seen this test before, but never knew the name. As was expected, my first test went very quickly (17.1 seconds) versus the second test (1 minute 8 seconds). I found myself having to really concentrate on the color to avoid reading the actual word. Toward the end it seemed I was ignoring the word and just looking at the color. As noted, it is difficult to get your brain to shift to another mode, particularly when words are presented. I wonder what the results might have been if the second list presented the words backwards or out of order in some other way? Would our brains still try to make sense of it or allow us to focus solely on the colors?

Kimberly Stevers

This is my first time taking the Stroop Test. The first time I took about 14.8 seconds and the second time was 17.0 seconds. Not too much of a difference, however, I as I read each wor the second time, I found myself getting tripped up and rereading. Very interesting.
