Students answered questions in regards to conjugating verbs in either the present tense or preterite tense. In the majority of the classes seen today, students worked in small groups and interacted with each other in discussions. We saw one teacher give a bell ringer at the beginning of class where students had to translate sentences in the preterite tense.

We observed a wide assortment of activities in our visits. Most were grounded in some type of text (videos, song lyrics, poem, blogs, student writing, toolkits, etc.). We saw several teacher guided lectures with some student input. We also saw small groups with more engaging discussions. We saw successful collaboration using technology through blogging to allow conversation between class periods. We also saw some student choice in whether students worked individually or in a group with teacher circulating around the room. One successful example of small groups was a tutorial where students were leading the discussion and answering questions for each other.

Most rooms had an immediate activity like a bell ringer. Some interesting activities observed included:
Having students rotate through centers in a modified gallery walk where students wrote on tables.
Activities that included student movement which led to more engagement.
Activities where students were grappling with the text to construct meaning.
The use of QR codes to guide students at an individual pace.
The use of blogging and having students comment on other student's blogs allowed for an expansion of the classroom.
