Though I haven't read this book yet, it's getting real praise as it discusses racism, its origins and relevance today. On Twitter, there's a link to an Educational Guide, though its for 30 days, it sounds like interesting discussions could be explored from this guide and book. Some negative language, such as the N-word, is featured in the book, the Guide discusses how students can talk about the feelings of that word without saying it. Just a thought, maybe best to present when school is back in session. Lively discussions would come out of reading this book.

Spine poetry for National Poetry Month

Sent you guys a picture of my attempt at Spine Poetry today, 4.14. Some of my favorite writers are featured. A great, but old idea, I read in a 2012 article written by Nikki Robertson is to upload the photo to a photo sharing site like Flickr that gives you a URL that can be shared with others. Students could send the photo to you guys and you could feature it on your newsletter. Just list the students' first name, last initial and their grade. It would also be a cool memory for the senior class to have a section of poetry just from them since they probably won't have an official graduation ceremony. I'll think of other cool tributes for seniors as well.

How to Create a Book Bento Tutorial

I wanted to create a tutorial on how to create a Book Bento. I didn't mention how to do a voiceover, just how placing related items strategically around a favorite book gives people an idea about what topics/images are featured in the book. Might be a cool idea for high school students to do either now or when school returns with an English teacher's class. Hope the Screencast works.
