Answer 1: The speaker’s emotional progression shifts through various degrees of agitation, each degree of more magnitude than the last. This relates to how I’ve witnessed emotion being contained and expressed in American culture on television, as oftentimes people bottle their emotions in and then the emotions build upon one another until they explode. This is not unlike how the speaker explodes upon the old man and kills him.

Answer 2: Most of the Americans that I have met in my life freely express their emotions as they experience it, but try to do so in a constructive way that does not lead to unnecessary escalation of the conflict. The speaker showed no signs of expressing his agitation and anger towards the old man’s vulture eye in a way that allowed for the old man to take appropriate action and remove the eye. Therefore, the speaker’s emotional progression of killing the old man before the old man could react does not coincide with my personal experiences of how American’s deal with emotion.
