What's it about?: Through the extended metaphor of a funeral, this poem mourns the lives of the young soldiers whose lives were unnecessarily lost during World War I.
Why should we read this poem?: This poem provides a moving insight into the horrors of war, and evokes sympathy in the audience for the young lives lost not only in World War I, but in other wars too. As the ideas in this poem are easily transferrable to other contexts, the poem encourages us to think critically about the nature of war.
