Lacking motivation is a primary reason for why people break their routines or decide against regularly exercising. Motivation is necessary for exercise and forming habits. Motivation, when it comes to exercise, comes from a desire for success in a competition, a desire for personal health, or simply a need for a fun activity.

To stay motivated, plan ahead. Choose pleasant weather to excercise, and stick to appropriate times. Think of the benefits of what you are doing. To improve your experience, listen to music or think of other things while you run or perform other exercises. Work exercise into your daily life by biking or running to work or school. Rewarding yourself is also a good way to stick with exercise. It doesn't need to be done at a gym or athletic practice. Just jogging or running, hiking, or riding a bike is good. Don't forget to set realistic goals and stick with them.

If you want to get any benefits from physical excercise, you will need to turn it into a habit. A habit is a repeated pattern of behavior that is formed through repetition. By doing something repeatedly, it will get physically easier and also become a part of your routine that will not be forgotten or put off. A significant portion, 40% of all activities according to one source, of things people do on a daily basis are based on repeated habits(Rubin, 2015). Turning exercise into a habit always leads to better health in the long run.

To build your daily exercise into a habit, stick with it. Keeping yourself motivated to do it is necessary. Repetition is key.
As we discussed in this class, habits are actually built up in your brain through connections between brain cells. They will continue to exist as long as they are acted upon.
There is a lot of variation between people, but anybody can form positive habits over time.
