It was Monday again and there was school again. I woke up and looked at the clock.
"7am?? I am so late for school," I thought to myself.
I dashed to the toilet and quickly showered and changed into my school uniform. I ran to the kitchen and drank the cup of milk that my mother had reminded me to drink and left the house running at the speed of light. I flew to the train station and boarded the train to Braddell. Luckily I lived close to the school and made it to school in the nick of time. As I reached my classroom, the school bell rang and I was thankfully not late.

It's dark and it smells like rotten fruit and dead bodies. The nauseating smell attacks my nose and gave me the urge to vomit. My eyes struggled to open and when I finally did take in my surroundings, I realised I was back here again. In the backroom of Babylon, completely wasted with vomit and the product of last night's activities all over me. I pulled myself off the floor, not very keen to know what made me stuck to it in the first place. I stumble to the dance floor, trying to make my way out the door. But I could not even walk in a straight line, much less realise which way I was going.
Once I got out, the blinding sunlight striked deep within my core, awakening the dreadful side effects of my hangover. My head pounded relentlessly, as if there was a demon tearing apart every cell of my brain to get out. My eyes instinctively closed shut, protecting themselves from the assaulting glare of the sun. I felt for my phone in my back pocket and checked the time.
"Ugh, Monday."

I want to hang myself. That was the first thing I said to myself when I woke up. I dragged my lethargic body after a long and intense night of gaming and self-loathing. I felt like trash. My body ached all over. It felt as if I got run over by a truck before getting slammed down by a heavy weight champion wrestler. My head hurt to the point that it felt as if my brain was going to leak out of my right ear hole and dissolve into a bunch of muck on the floor. It's Monday. I went to the toilet to freshen up before I changed into my school uniform. I wished that I could be anywhere but there. I didn't feel like going to school today to copy homework from my peers. I slowly undressed and wore my home clothes and I got a piece of paper to write a 'parent's letter' and I skillfully forged my dad's signature before going back to bed. I mentally prepared the excuse I was going to give my parents when they came home later.

“I’m late!” I shouted as I ran out of bed and into the bathroom. How could this happen? I hurriedly ate my breakfast and ran out of the door. Weekday mornings are usually hectic but none is more lively than Monday. As I walked hurriedly towards the bus stop, I could see people from all walks of life around me, from students in their school uniforms frantically running to catch their buses to men in suits with their phones to their ears. Fortunately, I was able to catch the bus on time. I did not expect, however, for it to be so crowded, I squeezed into a space that could fit me and waited for the bus to arrive at my stop. As I got off the bus and walked towards school, I thought to myself, ‘Mondays are awful!’

No one can escape it. We are all victims to the deadliest diesease known to mankind: Monday blues. I’m sure everyone suffers from a severe case of this and share a similar hatred for the worst day of the week. For most Singaporean students, including me, it means having to wake up at ungodly hours of the mornings and get ready for another hellish week of school. We all know the drill: drag our heavy bodies to the place that we all despise, then spend the next fifteen to thirty minutes rushing to complete our homework that just so happened to disappear from our minds over the weekend. That is just the tip of the iceberg. We would still have to endure another seven hours of mundane lessons and another two hours more of co-curricular activities. I cannot stop myself from wishing I could be anywhere else but here. The place that resides 18 levels underground seems like a five star hotel compared to here. I can’t wait to go home!

I want to sleep a little longer," I mumbled to myself. Everyone hated Monday, including me. It meant that we had to go back to school again. Thoughts of skipping school ran around my mind in circles. However , thinking of the consequences made me drag my feet like a heavy weight pulling me backwards. I glanced at my watch and realised that I was late for school. I grabbed my sandwich and my school bag and dashed out of the house.

Wishing I had made better use of my time, I stared at my alarm clock, aghast. I'm late! The very first day of school, and I was already in hot soup. Gaming till the wee hours of the morning was not a good idea at all, I admonished myself. I quickly brushed my greasy, spiky hair down and got ready to leave for another hellish year at school.

I lazily got up and hit the snooze button, going back to sleep once again. What felt like five minutes ended up being an hour and I was woken up by my mother vigorously shaking me and shouting, "You are already late for school!

I stared at the white ceiling above me wondering why I was still awake at this hour. I burrowed my head in my pillow trying to go to sleep. With only two hours left before I had to go to school, I sighed before standing up, resigning myself to the fact I was not going to get any sleep today. Having to rush through my holiday assignments that were meant to be done over two months in two days had meant that I had gotten little sleep for the past two days. "Well then, might as well finish the last of my homework." I muttered wearily. Walking over to my study table with notes from previous years and different subjects sprawled all over it. Scowling at the remaining stack of papers on the table, I plopped myself on my chair, picking up my pen and started to scribble furiously on the papers.

Nevertheless, I dragged myself out of bed to get ready for school as I knew my parents would surely be disappointed in me. I rubbed my eyes and washed my face to wake myself up. I quickly bathed and ate my breakfast to avoid missing the bus and be late for school. I thought of the consequences I would face if I was late for school. All those punishments kept popping up as I was on the way to the bus stop. Thankfully , I had only just arrived at the bus stop when my bus arrived. The bus was empty, meaning I could sit down and relax for the whole journey and prepare myself mentally for the long day in store for me.

The Monday morning where everyone felt sluggish and irritated but was left with no choice but to follow the 'daily routine'. I woke up to the alarm, trying to beg for more sleep as the lights of my room switched on, crushing my hopes of getting more sleep. "Get up! You're late!," my greatest enemy every morning yelled. "5 more minutes, Mom," I pleaded. Dragging me off the bed, my mother answered, "You know that phrase doesn't work on me". Smirking, she pushed me into the bathroom in order to get ready for school.

I had gone from being elated and excited almost every day during the holidays to being tired and bored. Time flew fast during the holidays, now it seemed like time started to drag.
In addition, I hated Mondays as Monday was the day after the weekend. Instinctively, I groaned at her, asking for another five minutes of sleep and covered my head with my pillow. Being as obstinate as a mule, she stripped off my soft blanket from my body and turned on the fan at high speed. "Let's see how you sleep now!" She remarked sarcastically and left the room, giggling to herself. I shivered and gritted my teeth in cold and in anger, preventing my tongue from lashing out rude comments at her, especially at the start of the day.
I struggled to open my eyelids which seemed to have been glued together during the night, got out of bed and made a beeline for the toilet to get ready for school. It was just another typical Monday, and the start of another typical year at school. Sigh.
