This is an episode of the series, "Ancient Aliens", a series claiming that extraterrestrial life were involved in early human civilization. Ancient Aliens recieves criticism for providing a platform for psuedoscientific practices, while spreading misinformation to a general audience who may have little education or experience in recognizing holes in the scientific method.

Here, the episode "Emperors, Kings, and Pharaohs" is analyzed. This episode uses the divine right of kings to justify the connection to extraterrestrial life. The divine right of kings is the belief that power is bestoyed by god to rulers, to which the documentary claims this to signify aliens. This is an element of many ancient socieities including Egypt, Medieval Europe, Ancient China, as well as the Russian Empire.

The program is narrated by a nameless narrator and host. They really only serve to connect the imagery, quotes, and facts presented in the program back to alien astronaut theory in a dramatic tone, with the choice of narrator have a typically recognizable voice type.

Here, the show begins to talk about the divine right of kings, with biblical symbols. Specifically, the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II is shown as well as detailing the symbolism some of the older language in the coronation ceremony.

There is also a cut to an interview with an individual, David Wilcock, who enthusiastically points out the relationship between the Bible and British Monarchy. This type of quick cut done in editing almost always is done to make the audience infer that the individual is an authority on this matter. Here, his caption estabilishes his credibility on his book, "Source Field Investigations." With an amiguous title, an audience member may assume that they could be of multiple sciences and humanities who incorporate fields into their research models(gravitational physicists, biologists, anthropologists, or anything with "field work") Further research reveals this book is an alternative science and spirituality book that incorporates elements of popular science

https://divinecosmos.com/about-david/
https://www.amazon.com/Source-Field-Investigations-Civilizations-Prophecies/dp/1501280198#customerReviews

Here, a legitimate anthropologist, Tok Thomson Ph.D., is used as an expert. Dr.Thomson has some research related to extraterrestrial life, but only on the origins for its visual portrayal by human societies.(Article called "What Does it Mean to Be a Human? Green-Skinned Troublemakers and Us") In the show, explains divine right of kings in some details as well as emphasizes how it was deeply connected to religion.

However, he is only brought on after the narrator tries to draw a parallel between the divine and aliens. This is abusing his credibility. This is also different from the previous expert, David Wilcock because Dr.Thomson is an actual expert, but by incorporating many "experts" of varying credibility in a very short time, the viewer will have trouble distinguishing between credible and uncredible experts. This is a technique that is continued to be used by the show in the later cuts to "experts" including, Dr. Robert M.Schoch, who is also been accused of perpetuating the ancient astronaut claims by other archaeologists. Unfortunately, this becomes a common pattern throughout the show's runtime, and there are multiple instances of trustworthy academics presented before or after conspiracy theorists.
https://dornsife.usc.edu/cf/faculty-and-staff/faculty.cfm?pid=1012737
https://www.jstor.org/stable/10.13110/narrcult.4.2.0185?seq=4
https://www.nytimes.com/1992/02/09/us/scholars-dispute-claim-that-sphinx-is-much-older.html

A well known perpetuator of psuedoscience and by extension psuedoarchaeology, Giogio A.Tsuoukalos, is brought in as an expert. (Recognizable from the "Ancient Aliens" memes template) Up to this point, the experts have kept their discussion of the divine right restricted exclusively to gods, but Tsuoukalos starts to raise the question of alien involvement. Tsuoukalos uses stories of Ramses who was mysteriously in contact with "sky guardians" to indirectly suggest that aliens may have been a more realistic option. These claims are then outright stated by another "expert", David Childress. Upon further research, Childress has incomplete education in the field of anthropology and is regarded by academics like Patrick D. Nunn as a peddler of psuedoscience to the easily exploited uninformed. (See Vanished Islands And Hidden Continents Of The Pacific)

Issues with the claims made include that there is no evidence presented to conclude that Ramses' stories are legitimate as is the nature with religion and myth.

legendarytimes.com
https://www.linkedin.com/in/legendarytimes/
https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/ancient-aliens

Here, an animation adds more scientific imagery to establish more credibility, interest, as well as mystery. This shows how the main priority in this program is entertainment and not the dissemination of factual information to a general audience. At this time in the show, they are talking about the "otherworldly powers" of the Ancient China Emperor, Shi Haungdi, infamously known for his burial with the terracotta warriors. These supposed powers are bestowed by the heavens as the more legitimate experts again detail the divine right of kings.

However, Tsuoukalos returns to claim that a myth of Shi Haungdi falling from the sky to rule China as well as his returns to the stars as evidence that he may be connected to extraterrestrial life.

"This to me sounds like the description of some type of UFO encounter" Martell states, but upon further research, there is nothing to prove that Martell has any publications or research on this subject. Martell claims to have formed multiple tech companies on his Linkedin and IMDB, but upon search, there is no evidence to suggest the Martell is a part of any of the existing companies he claims, including a recent company, Blast.

Although this has been done throughout most of the program, most of the claims follow a similar structure: recalling folklore or myths, explaining the divinity involved, then suggesting or theorizing the symbolism of divinity for extraterrestrial life

In this example, ancient Japanese artifacts are depicted as gifts from the gods, but it is later questioned "whether these artifacts are extraterrestrial technology" with no further evidence as to why they may be besides the mythology. By the end of this section on Ancient East Asia, questions are also asked but it is left on a dramatic cliffhanger that the answers to these questions will need answered with another society study. However, if the analysis of societies are all done similarly, no conclusions or information is drawn from any of them. Another examples is the Buddhist folklore of Ashoka being politically influenced by extraterrestrial beings. Most of the time, these are real folklore stories presented with radical ideas presented with statements that provide no evidence for the validity of ancient astronaut theory.

This is again done by drawing the same parallel between gods and aliens. Here, they use the folklore of Woden riding an eight-legged flying horse to symbolize a spaceship, while also drawing on the earlier incest of earlier dynasties. Claims were made that Queen Elizabeth II bloodline runs back to Woden, but it is unlikely the recorded history will could trace lineage that easily. The same claim is made with Ghengis Khan folklore with nothing further to back this claim. Unlike previous claims, they also mention how this claim is accepted by mainstream many scholars but fail to mention or include these credible scholars are.
