Infancy- Trust vs. mistrust

Trust means that a child needs to know that his or her expectations will be met by any of their caregivers and that the world is a safe place. Mistrust is any needs that were not met to their expectations and gives them the idea that the world is terrible and not reliable and this stage deals with ages 1-2 years old. My experience with Trust was me being at home with my mom and knowing that I was safe at all times. My mom was a stay at home mom so I was with her at all times. I got into the routine of learning that I would be with her and in the routine of knowing that she was the only one that I would be safe with. My experience with mistrust is when I started crying and I would cling onto my mom because I would know that she is the one that I trust so I would be in the routine of going straight to her for when I need comfort. I would not trust people that I was around if it was not my mom because she is the only parent that was there for me because my dad was still in the picture but he would always leave and go drink and I knew that he was not someone to trust he would by the mistrust. There is a quote in the book and it says, "Children love and want to be loved and they are very much prefer the joy of accomplishment to the triumph of hateful failure." Erik Erikson. This quote means that the significance of love and beneficial increase in a child's development. This quote goes well with what I said because it is a sum up of why children need trust and why they have mistrust even if they still have trust.

Early childhood- Autonomy vs. Shame and doubt

You normally see Shame and doubt between 2-4 years. There are toddlers who are inspired to tour things on their own and they will develop autonomy, but for those that are very confined will feel the shame and doubt which causes them to feel a lack of independence and confidence. My experience with autonomy vs. Shame and doubt is when I was 2-4 I went to daycare so I was independent because I was on my own. I still needed some help with whatever but I was doing most of everything on my own. The only experience I have is being independent because I was not around my mom all day to help me with the things I needed so I would know that it is okay to do whatever I needed to do by myself. I had the people that worked at daycare to help me and I learned to know that I could trust them and that my mom did what was best for me and I was not going to get hurt. I had confidence in knowing that I could do stuff on my own I was able to play with other kids and I was not alone. I had autonomy because I was able to tour things on my own. A quote is, "A child who is allowed to experience a sense of autonomy in early childhood will develop a strong sense of self-worth, while a child who is overly criticized or controlled may develop feelings of shame and doubt.". This quote sums up everything for why kids should and need to be independent and do things on there own. This quote basically means that when a child is given the freedom to make there own choices and to get to explore whatever they want as long as it is safe.

Preschool- Initiative vs. guilt

Having initiative builds up to an objective and can help build leadership skills; failure results in guilt and this stage deals with ages 4-5 years. My experience with Initiative is me being very head strong and I was driven by my own initiative. It was very hard to pin point that on a very early age. My parents would get onto me but I would be really hyper. I would have a task so it was breakfast lunch dinner then dessert. Getting threw the evening was my task because I was so focused on getting my routine. I had offensive pride to be ready to engage on people not looking at me. I didn't like them looking at me and I would say, "Don't Look at me" and then my mom would would say give them the mean mug look. At my grandpas wedding and I took initiative and grabbed the microphone from his hand and just started singing to the crowd. I had guilt by getting into trouble all the time and one time when I was in kindergarten I decided I wanted to moon the whole classroom so I definitely got into trouble that day. A quote for Initiative is, "A truly free sense of enterprise" and this is talking about the social level and then a quote for guilt is, "Shame over failing to complete a task successfully" and it feeling embarrassed or humiliated because you were not able to finish a project or goal properly which leads to a sense of worthlessness.

School Age- Industry vs. Inferiority

Industry is about someone being productive upon getting an evaluation of someones work. Inferiority means a person becoming discouraged, feeling humble, or unskilled upon receiving an evaluation of someones work which has to do with ages 5-12 years of age. My experience with Industry vs. Inferiority is when I felt very alone and discouraged when I went to one elementary school but then I had to move during 2nd grade because we needed to get a different house and I was so scared to go to a different school because I didn't know anybody so I had to make new friends and it took me a while because I was the new kid and no one knew me. I also was not a great kid in elementary school I have ADHD so it made times rough because I didn't start taking medicine for it yet. My 2nd grade teacher hated me so much and she was the worst teacher ever even my mom didn't like her. She would not help me when I needed it she would just send me to the office so I would feel discouraged into knowing that no one wanted to be there for me so I would just act out in class and just try to be the class clown. I would spend most of my time in the office because I was acting out because my teachers would not help me. My fourth grade teacher was the best teacher I could ever have though. When I started acting out she kept me in the classroom but she just moved my table by the wall by my self because she knew that I had potential in me and that I could do it. She did not give up on me and I will never forget her. A quote is, "I'm in third grade," Emily says. "I live with my mom and brother, and my dad lives in another house. I like to play with my friends. I'm good at swimming, and I like cats, and I am funny and silly. I think I am helpful, but my mom says that is a lie." I chose this quote because it really shows how she is living and what her perspective is on life. Kids need to understand that it is okay to live life and have fun they are still kids so they don't have very long to just be kids you only have a certain amount of time to be a kid before you are an adult.

Adolescence- Identity vs. role confusion

Identity vs. Role Confusion is made by the question of "Who Am I," which is the time that they are clashed with a dozen different values and ideas of who they should be and what they should think and this stage deals with ages 13-19 years. My experience with Identity vs. Role Confusion is when I started high school freshman year. I was going to a new school with a bunch of new kids because Helfrich and Perry kids came to Reitz so I only knew kids that went to Helfrich because that was my middle school. A lot of sophomores, juniors, and seniors would pick on me because they remembered me from middle school and picked on me then so they had to continue that. My experience with this role starts when they were picking on me and I would try to change the way I acted to maybe see if they would like me. I would other think and tell myself that maybe if I changed who I am then maybe it would change their perspective of me and who I am. When I tried to change who I am it made a lot of my friends not like me so I went back to being myself. All through out my sophomore year I was still getting confused because I was still trying to get the juniors and seniors to like me but they wouldn't so I was just like why am I even here if no one likes me but my friends always said that they are here and that is all I need. I had to stop using the school bathroom at Reitz because there would be so many kids that wanted to fight me or they were just doing drugs and I would be to scared to go into the bathrooms so I would also think why does no one like me but again I had friends that did I just thought I needed more but I wasn't good enough. I am now a junior in high school and I have just learned that not everyone is going to like me and I can't do anything about it and sometimes knowing that does hurt me a little because I don't like it when someone doesn't like me. I have resolved this by making a best friend and going to her when I need to talk or something and she does the same thing when she needs anything. There is way to many people in this world and I know that not everyone is going to like me and that is okay. There is a quote used in the book that says, "What we see changes what we know. What we know changes what we see." Jean Piaget. This quote explains everything I said just in short words. This quote is highlighting the energetic relationship between knowledge and perception and this means that our insight and understanding of the world is formed by our prior knowledge and experiences.

Young Adulthood- Intimacy vs. Isolation

This stage focuses mainly on relationships and deals with ages 20-40 years so when they are able to steer through this time period of life as planned. They end with having the relationships that they want. On the other hand struggling can cause loneliness and isolation. I imagine me at this stage in a healthy relationship and hopefully getting married and having at least one kid soon and I'll be starting my teaching career and getting our own house. There will be some struggling going on in this relationship but me and my husband will get through that together. There will be some days where I or my husband may feel lonely or isolated so we will need to make sure to have good communication and tell each other when something is wrong or feels off. We will make sure that we are providing everything that we can for our kids and let them know that if they need anything they can come talk to us and we will get them whatever they need. A quote is, "The young adult's life begins with the development of intimacy, the capacity to commit oneself to concrete affiliations and partnerships". This quote means the ability to completely commit to worthiness and partnerships with others including romantic, family, or friendship relationships.

Middle Adulthood- Generativity vs. Stagnation

Generativity means you creating a positive impact and providing for the world which has to do with raising children or engaging in useful work. Stagnation means you feeling stuck and not being productive and or lacking a sense of purpose and this deals with ages 40-65 years. I imagine me completing this stage by me not staying home when I had the sniffles or something and still going into work and being a good example for my kids and showing them that you still should go places until you are laying down and cant get out of bed. I will never feel this way because I will have always worked and take care of my kids so I will never feel stagnated. A quote is, "The major task of middle adulthood is to establish 'generativity' - the concern for and active participation in the welfare of the next generation, as opposed to becoming 'stagnant' and self-absorbed." This quote means actively contributing to and or caring for the well-being of future generations.

Maturity- Ego integrity vs. Despair

Integrity means looking back to life and feeling pleased with life being well-lived and Despair means regretting choices and or missed opportunities and this has to deal with ages 65-death. I imagine my experience with Integrity being fulfilled to its full potential. I will being looking back to me being the best I could be and knowing that I could help anyone and everyone as much as possible. My life will be well-lived I will have hopefully a husband and 2 kids and then I will help their life be well-lived. I think by making wise decisions throughout my life threw that you feel like you have done the right things in life and you don't want to look back and change anything. I imagine my experience with Despair is regretting not liking change and because of that I could have missed out on opportunities. A quote is, "To achieve ego integrity is to look back on one's life with acceptance, finding meaning in the journey rather than dwelling on regrets, embracing the end of life with a sense of wholeness." This quote means that many people in this final stage must come to deal with their past and must find some meaning in their lives to face their death.
