This quote relates to the key topic of wealth, because people think that them being apart of the upper class they can come to Gatsby's party without an invitation. Throughout this chapter we learned about some of the people who showed up or who were brought like they were important. Nick being invited shows that Gatsby is more interested in showing off his wealth to other people than hosting an event that has a structure or stricter rules while in some ones home.

This quote demonstrates that the personal connection between party-goers and the guest himself is not present. We can see that most people take advantage of Gatsby's wealth during the enormous parties that he throws. Along with this we can see that most of the people who go to Gatsby's parties are not there for the personal connection between the host but to socialize.

This quote reveals how Nick views the average party attendee. He sees them as people who are extremely rich or are trying to appear so and believes that they are people who demonstrate their wealth to others. The quote reveals this when he says "prodigality tipped out at the cheerful word". This shows that Nick portrays the party-goers as people who demonstrate their wealth often.

This quote demonstrates that at the party wealth is something that the attendees have in common. Along with this, it demonstrates that the average party-goer does not care whether they spend money in absurd ways. The quote relates to the topic of wealth and how people try to compete to flaunt what they have and point out what others do not. Essentially this quote demonstrates the toxicity of the wealthy among the wealthy.
