1. " Tells a timeless tale of a strong pioneer woman facing extraordinary challenges and conflicts " ( back of the book ). Its important because its saying that this woman Alexandra was an amazing woman and she went through some hard times in her life, but she still stayed strong for her brothers.
2. " People have to snatch at happiness when they can, in this world. It is always easier to lose than to find. " This is stating that Alexander lost a lot but she was still strong, and she didn't give up.
3. " Freedom so often means that one isn't needed anywhere " it means that freedom isn't what it all bows down to be.

1. " The little of Hanover , anchored on a windy Nebraska tableland " (pg 7) is used as imagery its making you visualize the town they lived in.
2. " The children were all in school, and there was nobody abroad in the streets but a few roughlooking countrymen in coarse overcoats, with there caps down to their nose" ( pg 8 ) is used as a symbol for the story because that just discribes how rough the town was.
3. " Alexander Bergson tends to the failing farm that she inherited from her father. She struggles to raise her brothers on her own " ( back of the book ) its used as an allegory because its a quote to describe the way Alexander's life was as she was taking care of the farm that her father left for her to take care of.
