Video 1 - How to Invest in the Stock Market for Beginners - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oYJaLgJL0Ok

This video is somewhat long, but it pretty much goes over everything you need to know when you start investing including the difference between day trading and long term investing, how to find good stocks, and why you should invest early. It is mostly from the opinion of someone who has been investing for a while and it is good to get a view point from someone who has been investing. One thing that I learned from this video is that he recommends holding stocks for the long term but not longer then 3 to 5 years. I think that is an interesting strategy, but I could see benefits from holding onto a stock for even longer.

This image depicts the two periods that are commonly used to describe the stock market with a bear market being when the stock market goes down in value overall, and a bull market being when the stock market goes up in value overall. This image was interesting to me because you can see that although the market does go down sometimes, it is still going up in value the majority of the time which is a good indication of the rewards the stock market can have.

Video 2 - What is Investment Risk? - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qv7E2yIiw4

This video describes how investments carry the risk of you losing the money that you put in, although the chances of losing all the money you put in is small. The video also describes volatility which is the amount that a stock price goes up and down. It explains that even though a stock may be going down in price, it does not mean that you should sell it as it will probably go back up again. This video makes a good point about how the stock market can be nerve wracking as you see the value of your stocks go up and down continuously. Something that I learned from this video is that when a stock is going down in price many people will panic and sell it so they do not lose more money. But if you buy at that point you could get a stock for a discounted price if it goes back up again.

This video explains how the overall stock market has increased over the past 30 years and that the most important thing in order to successfully invest is to keep your money in the market for as long as possible. The other benefit this video describes is how your money will also compound over this time so any interest you gain from your investments and reinvest into stocks will mean over time you will be able to gain more and more. This is one of the rewards that you can gain from investing in stocks. One thing that interested me the most from this video was that he explained how in 1989 the S&P500 was worth about $285 and when he made the video the S&P500 was at $2300 which shows just how much the stock market can grow and reward investing.

This picture shows how the S&P 500, a stock which tracks the top 500 companies on the American stock exchange, has been valued at over the years. I think it is a good depiction of the rewards which could be gained from investing over a long period of time as there is an obvious increase in how much the top 500 stocks have been valued at. Something that I learned from this picture is that although this stock has increased there are also times where it has fell in value as well, but each time it fell it would eventually recover and keep rising. This shows that even though prices may fall from time to time, it is good to hold for the long term.

This picture shows a pyramid with different types of savings on a pyramid with the most risky savings on the top and the least risky on the bottom. Investments into stocks and options are on the top of the pyramid because they offer the largest risk of losing money, but the more risky investment options also have the most potential for gain on this pyramid. What I learned from this picture was that it also said that savings accounts with interest rates below inflation will lose value over time, which is an interesting statement and leads me to believe that investing in stocks is one of the best ways to save money in the long term.

This website has a broad range of uses including providing articles about what is happening in the investing and business world for people interested in investing. It even provides articles detailing specific stocks that the author believes will perform well giving investors an idea of what to invest in. What I found most useful from this website though and what I have personally used in the past is that it has a search function which allows you to look up any investing term and get an explanation. This is very helpful, especially for those new to investing because there are a lot of acronyms and terms which are only used when investing and being able to quickly look up what they mean has been very helpful.

This website provides many articles on investing however I specifically found one to be useful on the risk of investing. This article detailed how investing carries risk, mainly the risk of losing the money you have saved. It explained how in investing you have to find the right balance between the amount of risk you are willing to take and the returns you want to get out of it. Generally the lower the risk, the lower the return you will get. What I found most useful was how this website explained that the younger you are the more you can afford higher risk investments because you have the time to recover from them if you do lose money. This is especially interesting to me and other younger people as it explains how we can change our investing strategies from more risky to less as we get older.

This website is the main webpage for an actual online brokerage that people can use to buy and sell stocks. I think it is useful because looking through it, you can see what the costs are to buy and sell stocks and to hold an account with a broker. I think these are also important factors to consider when thinking about investing as they play a role in how much reward you can achieve with investing. What I found especially interesting about this website was that it gives you the option to open a practice account and practice investing in real stocks with pretend money. This can give you experience in how to actually invest your money and can show you whether the stocks you invest in are giving you an acceptable amount of return for their risk before you invest your actual money into them.
