I chose this photo to represent the segregation found in this book. Put together, this could have been a great picture. Instead, the artist "ripped" the picture in half therefore separating the boys and adding a torn affect from what could've been. The book talked about how the coach is vital in representing the African American student. This is the teacher who believes the child can achieve excellence, and finds a team to help the student reach that potential. This is the kind of teacher that I want in my life. We have to understand what backgrounds our students are coming from. By having that in the back of your mind you will be able to best aid your students. Help them beat the odds!
