 Macbeth is a great man but his ambition first got him to murder innocent people and then got him killed. 
Bravery: 
Macbeth wasn't brave in the middle of the play but the rest of the play he symbolizes Masculinity which is why he gets all the ranks of noble men. 
Self doubt: 
Self doubt and guilt is another thing that has a huge part in taking down Macbeth's kingdom

Overall Macbeth is a strong character that shows courage but lack self motivation and is fooled by his own ambition and self doubt.

An example of that when the Thane of Cawdor betrays him and right after he is killed he chooses Macbeth to be the thane who is another traitor which shows that Duncan trusts everyone around him. He loves his country which is one reason that he joins allies with england and Malcolm but he also seeks vengeance on Macbeth  because he murdered  his family.

 Banquo is not only a close friend to Macbeth but has the same characteristics such as ambition but doesn't act on them.
