The captain had said that the guns were loaded but in the captains account he said that he did not intend on ordering to fire. According to George Sanderlin's account the captain said he did intend on murdering people and the captain did indeed order the men to fire. This is because in Witness account 2, it states that "Samuel Atwood came across 10-12 soldiers who had been fighting 2 boys rushing to town square, stating that they had an intent to hurt people." This shows that instead of making to rash decision to have self defense, they acted in rage and basically killed who their guns hit. If the British red coats had acted in self defense, then there would have been no reason that their captain should have order a fire. However, their captain DID order a fire, therefore the soldiers knew that they were causing harm. Acting in self defense is a rash decision that a person chooses because they feel as though they are in danger. It is NOT a ordered action.
