In 1836, the Menominee were forced

to give up the eastern half of their remaining territory. In 1848, the year Wisconsin became a state, they were forced to give up the remaining western half. When Wisconsin became a state, the president of the United Sates ordered the Menominee to leave their homes and move to a small reservation in the Crow Wing River area of Minnesota.

Lucy Stone was born on a farm in Massachusetts in 1818. Stone was determined to go to college but her parents didn’t approve. Stone started teaching at 16. Then when she saved up enough money she was able to go to college nine years later.

She then learned that a man would be reading it instead of her. Once she found out she immediately refused to write the speech.
