In 1801, the kingdoms of Great Britain and Ireland were merged into the formation of the United Kingdom. In 1916, there was a revolt against this process, to no avail. Three years later, the Irish Congress declared support for the creation of a sovereign state without ties to Britain: the Republic of Ireland, starting a war of independence. This conflict ended only in 1922, following the agreement reached in the Anglo-Irish Treaty, which established self-government and the dominance of the Free State of Ireland within a Commonwealth of Nations of Great Britain. Northern Ireland, on the other hand, decided to remain a component of the United Kingdom.

Irish songs are important because they tell a story, making them even more attractive to listeners. Most Irish instrumental songs were heard only as a follow-up of dances. The division of these two arts occurred mainly from the 1960s, when several public house" began to emerge that spread throughout Ireland and spread traditional music in the country.
Three rhythms of sweetness stand out in Irish music: the "jiga", which has its roots in Italy of the Middle Ages, the "reel", in which it has two main themes interspersed by improvisation, and the "hornpipe", which can present both moderate and fast progress, demanding in this case, greater skill of dancers and musicians.
The instrumentation used in Irish music is diverse and has instruments from the families of the breaths (such as flutes, bagpipes, accordion, hornpipe and concertina), strings (such as guitar, banjo, mandolin, harp and Fiddle and percussion (bones, bodhán and etc).
