Nelson mandela released from prison

Mandela had talks with goverment people well in prison And increased international preasure

Worldwide celebrations because madela was released from victor verster prison

Global symbol of hope and blacks were free from being segregated after Mandela made a change

-20,000 black people surrounded the Sharpeville police station to protest against the pass laws.

-69 people were murdered and 11,000 were arrested

-The telling of this story led to national criticism on apartheid.

-Sharpeville was the site of Mandela's signing of the new constitution.

Soweto uprising

happened in june 16-18 in 1976

The Soweto Uprising was a bunch of protests led by black school children in South Africa during apartheid.

Exposed the government.

The number of people killed in the uprising is from 176-700 deaths.

• Many artists and entertainers refused to perform in apartheid South Africa and/or prohibited their works from being shown there

It looks like Mandela was arrested because he ad incited a strike of African workers, leaving the county illegally, sabotaging the government, and being involved with the MK and the ANC's armed wing terrorist groups.

• Caused by a peaceful protest against laws in South Africa

• Police officers openly fired on the group of people peacefully protesting. It was the first and most violent, it wounded or killed 250 of the people and more than 11,000 were detained.

• Contributed to the banning of PAC and ANC as illegal organizations

People gathered outside Sharpeville police station to protest the Pass Laws. Police opened fire on the crowd killing 69 people.

The Sharpeville Massacre caused global outrage and led to the banning of protests groups like the ANC. Many people turned to arme resistance, and March 21 is now remembered as Human Rights Day in South Africa.
