  • I think that sight words are not the holy grail for literacy instruction. Instead, we ought to use a small number of sight words to study in detail alongside phonics. I have been taught in so many other courses and by so many educators how important sight words are, so this was surprising to me. Also, literacy is complex, but we have the tools we need to be able to effectively serve literacy clients.

I think the correlation and integration of all components of literacy and where we as SLPs fit into that is the biggest thing that stuck out to me. The collaboration, the different aspects of each intervention, why setbacks occur, etc that we discussed  and literacy through the lifespan all painted a clearer picture for me!
