Rey Mayoral also works at Terra Linda High School within the San Rafael City Schools as a mentor to new principals and administrators, in which role he leverages more than 20 years’ experience in education. Rey Mayoral serves on the boards of directors of the Northwest Regional Education Laboratory and Columbia Willamette Area Health Educational Services. He completed his education at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, earning his master of arts in education. Outside of work, he is involved in the AARP, as well as his local Rotary Club, and he takes part in various fundraisers. A retired educator with a career spanning nearly 40 years, Rey Mayoral serves as a project consultant for Marin County Office of Education in California. He has assisted with the Northern California Career Pathways Alliance and the Dreamers Project. Remaining involved in retirement, Rey Mayoral belongs to several service organizations, including AARP.

Founded in 1958, AARP California is a way for people over the age of 50 to achieve their goals and dreams. Formerly the American Association for Retired Persons, the organization works with its 3.1 million members in the state and partners with volunteers and community organizations to provide opportunities for its members. AARP California has offices in San Francisco, Sacramento, and Pasadena.

One event sponsored by AARP in San Diego was the Westside Pedestrian and Bicycle Enhancements Acting Living Workshop. The event, which occurred on August 12, 2016, at Casa de Salud Youth Center, allowed attendees a chance to make their streets and neighborhoods more pedestrian-friendly. It featured classroom-style sessions and a walking tour between Kimball Park and Paradise Creek Educational Park. In conjunction with Shelterbox, Rotary International has been at the forefront of relief efforts in flood-ravaged Peru. Beginning in February, heavy rains in the region have caused significant floods and mudslides. These events have completely leveled some buildings and damaged others, including schools, residences, and places of worship. 

Since then, Rotary has been on the scene, with the help of ShelterBox. Through their joint efforts, they have been able to identify the extent of the damage. Even after the floods have subsided, there is still the mud left from the mudslides, which can lead to significant illness if not cleaned away. After just two years with the Lakers, D'Angelo Russell is heading east as Los Angeles traded the point guard to the Brooklyn Nets along with Timofey Mozgov in exchange for Brook Lopez and the 27th overall selection in the 2017 NBA Draft. Russell, an alumnus of The Ohio State University, was chosen by the Lakers with the second overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. He averaged a career-high 15.6 points and 4.8 assists per game last season, but struggled to adapt to the Lakers offensive system. Mozgov, meanwhile, was signed to a four-year, $64 million contract in the 2016 offseason and played just one year with the Lakers.

A former All-Star, Lopez brings a veteran presence to the young Lakers team. The 29 year old is a former 10th overall pick who has spent his entire nine-year career with the Nets franchise. He has a career average of 18.6 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game.
