They want to be recognized as a world power again. Politically, China is a communist country but have mostly abandoned socialist economics. The economy in China is tremendous and as a industry of consumer goods, China has risen to the top in terms of "prominent states." One man named Walder said that because of the "economic reforms and the lack of control on non political activities as well as embracing the outside world, people have a sense of freedom in China." China is a very wealth country and while that is great, some worry that they will spend a great deal on their military and manpower. China is the "world's most populous country" and even before it caught up economically, the country was still important because of its size. The size and modernism that China brings is promising but there lies one huge problem that China has to face. China just like the United states (which is comparable in size) share borders with other countries. The U.S. is not an enemy with any other country that shares a border but China, on the other hand is. China shares a border with 14 different other nations including India and Russia. China has gone to war with both of these countries. This is a problem for China. Other problems China has is producing as much petroleum as they are using, potable water and a demographic problem including "aging populations and low birth rates."

For the most part, the U.S. and China agree on the economy. But still there is still tension here. One thing these two countries disagree on is military intentions and this causes the U.S. and China to disagree with each other on pure politics. The U.S. fears that China's growth in military force could be potentially dangerous towards them. China as a country have made steps to ease these tensions. Taiwan has been in the middle of the U.S. and China. Taiwan and China disagree on the island Republic of China and each have different feelings about what is to be done about this place. The U.S. has stepped in and said they want China and Taiwan to unify through "peaceful accession." The relationship between the U.S. and China is complicated and can be broken up into these three points: Military, economic, and political relations.

The United States buy many of these goods but China does not do the same to the U.S. The imbalance is huge and this is a problem. China has gained a ton of money from America and are using some of that money to buy loans so that the U.S. can finance this deficit of spending. America has a reason to be concerned because what will happen if China stops buying loans? The U.S. would no longer be able to do business with China. This would hurt the U.S. but China would also take a hit too. Just a decade ago China (or more specifically Beijing) hosted the Olympics and this was a "coming out party" for China. The fact that China hosted the Olympics was huge because it gave people a new and more positive look on China instead of the old "Tiananmen Square" China. This new look China is both good and bad for the United States. It's good because China's military will be more confident and now more peaceful and will not want to disrupt peace around the world. The negative side is that now China has made a "nondemocratic political bargain" in which China will limit the closeness of the alliance can become.
