In the video, women are viewed as bossy when trying to take leadership, but men are praised for their great leadership when they do the same thing. Our society still isn’t ready to break away from the double standards that women receive. It should not matter what gender you are for others to see you as a leader and to take you seriously. There are times at award shows or formal events when women are doing great things for the community, but they get stopped to answer questions about their outfit, or people make statements about their appearance. On the other hand, men get asked real questions about their roles and contributions to society. It is time for the world to see women for who they really are strong, intelligent,successful, and independent individuals. I hope one day women can be seen as equal or very close to equal as men in terms of work ethic and standards. Women are not treated the same as men because our society is not ready for that change.

A gender role is when you are put in a category based on your gender and people expect you to act a certain way. Gender roles are different today than what they were many years ago. A long time ago women used to not be allowed to work and they were expected to stay at home and raise their children and clean and cook. Now women can go to work and still raise their children at the same time. When the women and the man were given separate laptops you could automatically see the gender role. They expected the women to be very girly and like the color pink because that is what is “expected of a girl”. Then they gave the male a blue laptop decorated with baseball, football, and other sport stickers on it. In the video the men were viewed as “better leaders”. The female in the video was treated as if she couldn't do anything, this is shown when the boss wanted the male to fix the copier instead of the female. Gender roles are still a problem today, but recently their have been major changes. People now are speaking out about their gender and how they want to be treated. Social media is a huge part of this when spreading the word about women rights. I have seen gender roles be a problem in school when a teacher asks for help to carry boxes a few girls will raise their hands to help but the teacher will call on the boys because the boxes are “too heavy”. - Sophie Pepin

In 1950s America, gender roles were a thing in the family and business life of Americans. Women were traditionally thought as nurturers for the family, and men were thought as the breadwinners and did the labor (like yard work and household problems) around the household. During the time, it was considered a taboo for women to work the jobs that men usually do, and was also like that for people of color due to the viewpoints and events of the time. Most Women at that time, worked as teachers, stay at home moms, bank tellers, or secretaries. During the time after the Civil  Rights Movement, the traditionalist view of women became less apparent (and the traditionalist point of view is still around today). More women work in jobs that men work in today. Women today have the same rights and opportunity for a job the same as men have.

I believe that everyone should feel comfortable doing whatever they enjoy doing. In today's society, women are running for president and serving high roles in politics and are also important leaders in our military. Although gender roles are still an issue, it has gotten much better throughout the years and it will continue to get better.

This happens to women all the time around the world and yes its changing but in many ways it is still the same women are still expected to be girly and take care of there house hold. women are still paid and treated different based off the way they dress talk and even who they surround themselves with. Because its not what society  is used to or ready to see and understand.

At the gym I feel like people treat you differently because your not a guy. They automatically assume that your weak and you can´t do the same kind of workouts as guys. I am a strong believer that gender roles is still a problem and should be stopped.

Girls are laughed at for playing football and boys for playing volleyball. These are all normal things that are a problem to our society today. In the video, the men had to have a blue chromebook and the women a pink? The mugs they had to drink from were all words that had to describe men and women such as ‘strong’ and ‘fabulous’ for women. This shows that we live in a world where people are supposed to play the role of their gender and are not socially accepted to be who they want to be and enjoy their own life with freewill.
