1. Amari got sold. In the text it says"Sold", the auctioneer said loudly, for sixty pounds to Mr. Percival Derby of Derby shire Farm." ( page 78 paragraph 1)The reason why this is a important event this is because she is now being taken and instead of being free, like how she was, now she will be owned. And will have no freedoms or rights.

2.The journey on the slave boat. In the text it says "But no relief was to come that night, nor the next day. The winds kept roaring, the ship rolled, and the slaves chained beneath the decks suffered endlessly." ( page 60 paragraph 2) The reason why this was a big event is because she got taken away from her home land and her beautiful life and put into a new environment which is beyond the point of terrible and is very cruel that no one should go though. On the ship she gets beaten, raped and abused. And barely get food or water. And a non safe or sanitized place to sleep. This journey change her attitude toward life and made her think about terrible thing that usually people don't have to worry about.

3. The last important event is here being taken to Derby farm. In the text is says" The girl was then pulled with difficulty from the stage, dragged across the courtyard, and forced into the back of the wagon that Polly leaned on.(page 79 paragraph 2) The importance of this event is because Amari is being taken away and is being moved to place she has never been before. To work and be a slave for Clay. The place she is going is the Derby farm.

Quote 1: "KA-BOOM! The ship's cannon fired suddenly, sending the slave women on deck scurrying for cover. Amari cowered close to Afi, sure that her life was about to end. The sailors, however, seemed unconcerned, even cheerful, as they steered the ship towards it's destination" (pg.64 para.1). The setting in this quote is important because it shows Amari's arrival to her future.

Quote 2: "'Sold,' the auctioneer said loudly, 'for sixty pounds to Mr. Percival Derby of Derbyshire Farms.' Polly looked up with a surprise. She hadn't know who was doing the bidding. The she shrugged. She just hoped Mr. Derby's new purchase would get put out in the fields where she belonged" (pg.78 para. 1). The setting of this quote is important because it is a new chapter for Amari and it is when she is got sold.

4. Stay strong and never give up is the theme of parts 1 and 2. "You know, certain people are chosen to survive. I don't why, but you are one of those who must remember the past and tell those yet unborn. You must live." This shows that Amari should stay strong and never give up because she was chosen and she deserves to live . "Perhaps it is better to die," Amari told her sharply. Afi sighed. "if you die, they win. We cannot let that happen." This shows that Amari should live and she should not let the tragedies that have happen over come her. She should not let the slave trade win. Amari shall stay strong and and heal her self mentally and physically. This is why i think the theme of parts 1 and 2 is stay strong and never give up.

2.) Adjectives 1. Scared- Amari is scared because in part 2 she is being sold off to work at a farm, and she doesn't even know if the people she is getting sold off to are mean or nice. On page 79 it says, "It seemed to Polly that the slave girl curled in a corner of the wagon would never stop crying."

2. Sad
Amari is sad and depressed because she is being separated from Afi, who acted as a mother to her. Afi always comforted Amari when she was sad. On page 79 it says, "The older woman, who was also crying, leaned down and quickly whispered something in the girl's ear."

3. Strong
Amari has become a lot stronger since the beginning because she has been put through a lot with having to go through the slave sale. Now she is having to deal with Clay abusing her. On page 103 it says, "You must go with Tidbit. Master Clay is asking for you." Amari looked at Polly, then the child, and suddenly seeming to understand, she groaned. "No! No! No!" she begged. Polly touched her arm but couldn't think how to help her".
