The 7.8-magnitude earthquake on April 25, 2015 destroyed Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. More than 3,000 people were killed. This earthquake was 16 times more powerful than the magnitude-7 quake that devastated Haiti in 2010. It was also followed by a large number of aftershocks for many days in the surrounding area. The magnitude of the quake also triggered avalanches on Mount Everest.

This natural disaster will have a devastating impact on this poor country's economy, which is best known for Everest, the highest mountain in the world. Nepal depends on money from the tourist coming to climb the Himalaya Mountains.

I have never experienced an earthquake or any major natural disaster, but this disaster makes me think of the earthquake in Haiti, the Tsunami in Japan and Katrina in New Orleans. When Tropical Storm Sandy hit Dauphin County, I know how devastating it was to our community. I can't imagine how a city/country is able to repair and rebuild and how people survive such a scary and debilitating event. I know how difficult it was here and how long it took and their disaster was so much worse !
