This helped me to be confident in choices later in life. "Child develops a balance of independence and self- sufficiency over shame and doubt."

Stage 3 Initiative vs Guilt

This is an important development because we learn how to take the lead and then also what it feels like to not make a good decision. At this stage in my life I feel as if I let doubt and guilt take over. I started to become shy and not always want to do things with other kids. If I felt that I wasn't going to be good at it I did not want to do it. I'm still a bit like this today. "Child develops initiative when trying new activities and is not overwhelmed by guilt."

At this stage a child needs to be praised and reminded of their strengths. If they do not receive this they will begin to feel inferior. This is a period in my life where I was doing very well academically. I believe it to be a major time in my life. I was placed in the grades above me and sent to a special school for middle school. I was told how smart I was and I believed it. "Child must learn skills of the culture or face feelings of incompetence."

The teenage years can be hard. This is a time when we are making new friends and starting to get jobs. We are trying to figure out who we are and where we would like to go in life. Durning this stage I drifted a lot. I had friends from all different groups in school and liked to be social. I would jump around at different jobs unsure of where I wanted to work. I graduated high school a year yearly and this would be a big turning point in this developmental stage for me.
Stage 6 Intimacy vs Isolation

Intimacy vs Isolation is a developmental stage when relationships are changing. A person my keep the same close friends from their teenage years or those same people may become acquaintances. This is a time when some may isolate in an attempt to avoid intimacy. In this stage I lost a lot of my friends that I grew up with. I made new friends but they did not continue over to the adult years. I was very social but not with very deep connections. I was probably a bit more self absorbed at this stage than I would like to admit. "Person seeks to make commitments to others or may suffer from isolation and self-absorption."

This is a time between the ages of 30-50 when we begin to examine our lives to see if it is going in the direction that we would like it to. It is a time that can have drastic changes in it. It is also a time when we are nurturing and contribution to society. This is where I am at now. In this stage I got divorced which tends to be common. We start to look at our lives and realize that its halfway over and if we are not happy then we want change. It is a time when I really need/needed to look inward. I am raising my kids and concerned about their future. "Mature adult is concerned with establishing and guiding the next generation or else feels personal impoverishment."

In this stage people are reminiscing and looking back at their life. They are thinking about all that they have done or accomplished and are either fulfilled or have a sense of regret. This is what I have to look forward to. I hope that when I get here I will have a sense of fulfillment based on the life that I lived. I know that we all will have some regrets but I hope to look back and be able to say that I did my very best and that I lived a good life. "Elderly person achieves acceptance of own life, allowing acceptance of death, or else despairs over inability to live life."
