The five food groups are essential for maintaining our overall health. Fruits give us vitamins, such as vitamin C, which help us fight off sickness. Vegetables provide fibre and minerals to keep our bodies strong. Grains, such as bread, rice and pasta, give us energy for learning and playing. Protein foods like meat, fish, eggs, beans, and nuts help our muscles grow and repair. Finally, dairy products such as milk, cheese and yogurt provide calcium for strong bones and teeth. Eating a balanced mix from all five food groups every day helps us grow, stay healthy and feel full of energy.

Eating the right amount of fats, sugar, and sodium is important for good health. Too much fat can lead to weight gain, heart disease, and blocked arteries, but too little fat can make it hard for the body to absorb vitamins. Too much sugar can cause tooth decay, obesity, and increase the risk of diabetes, while too little sugar may leave you low on energy. Too much sodium (salt) can raise blood pressure and harm the heart, but too little sodium can cause muscle cramps and weakness.
