I/1. WHY DO WE LOVE?

Romantic love is heartbreaking and soul-crushing. Love makes our life meaningful or

is an escape from our loneliness? Do we need love? We don’t want to be lonley, we

want to feel safe.

1. Plato : Love makes us whole again

Long time ago people had four legs, four arms and two heads. One day they’re angered

the gods, and Zeus sliced them in two. The goal is for everyone to find the missing

half, and that will make us whole again.

2. Schopenhauer:Love tricks us into having babies

He suggested that we love because our desires lead us to belive that another person

will make us happy. Nature is tricks us into procreating..

3.Russel:Love is an escape from our loneliness

He thought we love in order to quench our desires. In a physical and a psychological way.

We fear of the world,so we build hard shells around us to protect ourselves. Love helps

us to escape our lonely world.

4. Buddha:Love is a misleading affliction

Love is a great source of suffering. Buddha probably would have had some interesting

arguments with Russel, because their opinions were very different. A chinese novelist wrote

this buddhist sentiment in a book called Dream Of The Red Chamber. In this book the

hero falls in love with a girl who tricks him. A priest gives him a magic mirror that can

cure him. He must not look at the front of the mirror. When he does ,his soul enters into the mirror. This story proves:love brings tragedy.

5.Beauvoir:Love let us reach beyond ourselves

She said love gives our life a meaning. She was more interested in how we can love better.

She thought romantic love can be so captivating. To avoid this problem,Beauvoir advised

loving authentically, which is more like a good friendship.Lovers supporting each other,

reaching beyond themeselves.

My opinion is: love not just can be romantic love. Beacause we love our family

too(maybe more than our lovers or partners), and romantic love is so complicated, we have

to experience love before we give an opinion about it.
         I/2 The missing piece
The missing piece was lonely,it was waiting for somebody to fit in.Sadly it couldn't roll.
Problems: -some had too many pieces missing
- some had too many pieces
-the hungry ones
-some looked too closely
-others rolled right by without noticing
The missing piece tired to make itself more attractice. It tired to being flashy, but that just frightened away the shy ones. At last one came along that fit just right.but the missing piece began to grow. One day one came along with no missing pieces. It called The Big O. The Big O said the missing piece can roll. It tired, but it's shape changed. It is started to bouncing. And then...it is started to rolling.
My opinion: I think the message is that at the end we finally find the love of our lives after so many struggle. What makes us happy today won't make us happy tomorrow( the missing piece wanted to belong somewhere and roll but it's shape changed and maybe that is not the best thing.)

1/3
My friend

My best friend is actually my sister because we do a lot of things together and I love her so much. She is 3 years younger than me. She's in 6th grade and she is playing in the school handball team, she was at some match.I'm really proud of her.She is medium-sized,she has got brown hair and green eyes. She wears glasses like me. We spend a lot of time together. She is funny because she is a little bit goofy and that makes me laugh. She is lovely and kind. She is happy and joyful because she doesn't like boredom she is not a boring person. She is a little bit a moody person because in one minute she is angry at me but then in the other minute she wants to play with me ( a board game or something like that). She is independent because she likes doing things on her own, without help. She is very reliable, she has a shoulder to cry on.She is not so out-going,she is always on the phone. She prefers to get up early at the morning. She loves to play sports. Her favorite sports are swimming, handball and gymnastics. She love cooking and she wants to do this in the future. Her favorite fragrance is vanilla. I hope that we will continue to be close to each other in the future and she can always count on me.

II/2 The Black Cat summary
Edgar Allan Poe: The Black Cat

                          Summary

Our protagonist was a kind, lovely person since his birth. He was good-hearted and he had a nice relationship with animals. He married early. They had birds, goldfish,a fine dog, rabbits,a small monkey and the cat.The cat was a bit big, beautiful, completely black and astonishingly intelligent.Pluto-that was the name of the cat-was his favorite pet and playmate. He fed it and the cat followed him whenever he went.

Their friendship took a long time.

The man started to drink and swear with his wife. He became violent. His pets felt his new behavior. One night he came home very intoxicated. He pulled out a little knife out of his pocket ,

grabbed the cat and he cut one of the cat’s eyes. The next morning

he felt a little horror and repentance in himself. At the same time the cat disappeared.

His feelings soon goes to irritation.

(Even earlier he was knocking the cat down on a tree. That night he slept among flames.)

One day after the fire he visited the ruins. In his old house he noticed a giant cat with a rope

on it neck.

One night,as he sat halfdrunk in a bar,he noticed one cat. It was similar to Pluto, except

one thing. It belly was white. He brought the cat home, let it follow him. He didn’t hurt

this cat, because he was scared of the cat.

Once he and his wife went to they old house. The cat followed him(and this angered him),

so he grabbed an axe, because he wanted to kill the cat. His wife tried stop him,but he killed his

wife. He wondered how to hide the body. He put the corpse into the cellar, and he walled

his wife. He slept calmy that night. The next day the police came to his house. He was still

calm. In his last sentence,he told the truth to the police.

II/3.
Edgar Allan Poe: The pit and the pendulum

the story I’ve presented is The pit and pendulum.

It was written by E .A. Poe

The story is about suffering and death.

In the introduction we meet the narrator, who reveals that he has been sentenced to death during the time of the Inquisition. Upon receiving his death sentence, the narrator swoons, losing consciousness. When he awakens feels very badly, almost fainting. He was unconscious when brought here and now he didn’t know where he is. He was in a prison cell. He tried to remember and explain his dreams, because he dreamt about his death.

Then he started to measure the size of the cell.He discovered the pit on the floor, and the pendulum hanging from the ceiling. The pendulum came down fast and he tried to escape, but he couldn’t.The pendulum had a sharp edge, and it was so big that it seemed in a few moments would cut him in two. He looked around but he could see only one escape route: the pit. He didn’t want to jump into the pit.

The walls of the prison then heat up and begin moving in toward the pit. The narrator realizes that the enclosing walls will force him into the pit, an escape that will also mean his death. Then the walls suddenly retract and cool down. In his fear, however, the narrator has begun to faint into the pit. To his great surprise, though, a mysterious person latches onto him and prevents his fall. The French general Lasalle and his army have successfully taken over the prison in their effort to terminate the Inquisition.

The atmosphere is dark,creepy,deadly.

The pit represents the death ,and the pendulum represents time.

I didn’t like it. When I first read it it was creepy, weird because it has death in it .It was worse than The black cat. After more reading it was still horrible.

My Christmas in 2017 was fantastic. I didn't buy a lot of presents to my family because nowadays you can't buy a present which doesn't break the bank. While we were listening to Christmas songs we decorated the tree. My mum turns into the life and the soul of the party when she hears Last Christmas by Wham! .
My father doesn't let anyone to get a word in edgewise until the tree is perfect and he is climbing the walls when the lights on the tree doesn't fit perfectly. My grandma came to us and she brought stuffed cabbage. The dinner was fried fish fillet with French fries. After the dinner we opened the presents. We used our best behaviour and walked on eggshells to avoid arguing. Christmas is the feast of love. My sister just got one bigger present but she didn't go stir-crazy about it. On 25th December my uncle came to us. We usually don't make a big Christmas party so we can't say that our party went like a dream or went off with a bang. But we had a whale of a time. Between Christmas and New Years Eve we went shopping more presents for ourselves and we rushed off our foot. I had a very great Christmas in 2017 and I'm so grateful for my family.

I/II Earworms: those songs that get stuck in your head

I chose this video because it always happens to me that a song pops into my head and it doesn’t want to leave. Not the whole song, but a fragment of it that plays and replays. I wanted to learn more about this.

The video says that over 90% of people are plagued by earworms at least once a week. This usually happens when we do activities that don’t require much attention. Earworms are a special form of auditory imagery because they’re involuntary. They tend to be quite vivid.

We can blame our earworms on modern technology because now we have a lot of devices so we can listen songs on the same thing again and again. In 1876 Mark Twain wrote a short story about a sinister takeover of an entire town by a rhyming jingle. When we listen to a song we know, we’re constantly hearing forward in time. In this way, a tune is sort of like a habit.

II/II How stress affects your brain
Short-lived stress isn’t always a bad thing, it can give you some energy and focus. But when it’s continuous, it actually begins to change your brain.Chronic stress can affect brain size.

Stress begins with something called hypothalamus pituitary adrenal axis (HPA). When your brain detects a stressful situation your HPA axis is instantly activated and releases a hormon called cortisol which primes your body for instant action. Chronic stress increases the activity level and number of neutral connections in the amygdala, the brain’s fear centre. Cortisol can literally cause your brain to shrink in size.High quantity of it results in the loss of synaptic connections between neurons and the shrinking of your prefrontal cortex, the part of your brain the regulates behaviors like concentration, decision-making, judgement and social interaction.

Chronic stress might make it harder for you to learn and remember things, and also set the stage for more serious problems, like depression, and eventually Alzheimer’s disease.

Meditation and physical exercises can help to reduce stress.

Get in control of your stress before it takes control of you.

Over 80% said that a major life goal for them was to get rich. An other major life goal for them was to become famous. The Harvard Study of Adult Developement may be the longest study of adult life that’s ever been done. For 75 years, they’ve tracked the lives of 724 men. They’ve asked about their lives, their work, their health.

About 60 of their original 724 men are still alive, still participating in the study, most of them in their 90s. Since 1938, they’ve tracked the lives of two groups of men. The first group started the study when they were sophomores at Harvard College. The second group was a group of boys from Boston’s poorest neighbourhoods. Some climbed the social ladder from the bottom all the way to the very top, and some made that journey in the opposite direction. They’ve learned three big lessons about relationships. The first is that social connections are really good for us, and that loneliness kills. The second is that isn’t not just the number of your friends you have, but it’s the quality of your close relationships that matters. The third one is that good relationships don’t just protect our bodies, they protect our brains
