    People will leave plastic on the beach and it will wash into the ocean. Then sea life will think it is food and try to eat it and then get sick or die.
    • How do products we use on land affect our oceans?
    When restaurants use straws, they are not put to good use. They usually make it to the shore/ocean and ends up hurting or killing fish.
    • How have societal needs and wants influenced the development and use of straws?
    They are easier to use and we can throw them away and don't have to wash them. Also some people have to use straws for certain reasons.
    • What are the trade-offs between using plastic straws and not using plastic straws?
    If you don't use them, then the ocean and the animals won't be harmed. If you do use them, you are polluting the ocean.
    • How can you creatively and effectively spread the message to reduce plastic use?
    You can use YouTube or social media to post videos and comments to spread the message, or posters and flyers.

    -Very surprised that there is 8 million metric tons a year of plastic in our waterways
    -I will stop using straws-for turtles and all animals
    -billions of straws end up in landfills
    -plastic takes centuries to decompose, making it a big threat
    -we can use plants like Max to create straws instead
    -I thought the gold straws were cool
    -I loved what Max is doing to help animals
    -plastic that is being put in the ocean is constantly killing animals
    -it is so sad to see that much plastic in the ocean
    -such a simple concept, yet a huge impact on our environment
