The challenges are that hawkers were dirty and unorganised. The hawkers are resilient and daring as they did not back down from the British colonial government and waited until Singapore's independence on 1965.

I read the article of Singapore then vs now, I stumbled across an old picture of the church of nativity of the blessed virgin mary which was interesting as i live 100m away from it and could see my neighbourhood back then. It was really interesting. I also saw a drastic change on the VIctoriaa street.

When street hawkers had first emerged in Singapore, hygiene and public health was a major issue. Many of these hawkers did not have the easy access to water or other amenities to keep their equipment and products clean. At times customers to these hawkers had contracted typhoids or cholera due to this lack of hygiene
I believe that by overcoming these challenges and ensuring it's continuation till today, Singapore has demonstrated a staunch dedication to preserving our culture and heritage. I think that such values will for time to come help to preserve the multiculturalism we value so much today
