In an ideal sense, the Moses represents also both the artist and the Pope, two personalities who had in common what is known as "terribilita". Conceived for the second tier of the tomb, the statue was meant to be seen from below and not as it is displayed today at eye-level.

It concentrated on God the Father, focus comes from folds of drapery focuses on composition showing Adam as very relaxed doesn't have a life yet, God endows him with soul or life.

To the left of Hell Mouth extends what little of earth has not yet been dissolved, and from its barren ground, reminiscent of the earth on which Adam lies in the Creation of Adam.

This was intended to extract the highest level of effort from Leonardo and Michelangelo by placing the two greatest artists of the Renaissance era in direct competition with each other.
