Unlike a traditional nurse, public health nurses do not provide just one-on-one patient care, but work on the community/population level to promote wellness to as many people in a community as possible.

Their responsibilities often include:

  • Collecting and analyzing data on health indicators

  • Work directly with families and communities to provide information and resources in order to promote healthy behaviors

  • Develop a complex understanding of a community's health status

  • Conduct educational workshops

  • Create and implement programs and policies to address identified issues

  • Provide cultural or linguistic care in communities such as English translations and tailored interventions specific to community needs/values

  • Collaborate with government and community organizations

  • Promote overall population health

    Unlike Critical Care Nurse, Certified Emergency Nurses handle a variety of different emergencies. This can range from trauma cases to cardiac events which require an all hands approach in making sure patients receive the appropriate emergency response care. Having this level of training would result in improved patient outcomes and increased likeliness of survival.
