The sanctions were first enforced because of the Korean War but were later strengthened in 1980 after the bombings of South Korea. Because of the sanctions North Korea struggles with food and military. The first sanction banned the trade of military items and things like planes so the military infrastructure was not good. The sanctions also reduce the ability to provide food and humanitarian efforts to the country.
