Cut and Chelsea blow dry

02/04/2020
One length cut and long graduation at around 160 degrees. I used the club cutting technique and free hand to tidy up the ends. Once completed and cross checked, I used a round brush, hand dryer and clips (sectioning clips as I didn’t have pin clips) to create a Chelsea blow. I pinned the hair up and left to cool. I styled the front separately with straighteners to create neater, more subtle curls as I didn’t want the curls too bouncy around the face. I applied oil to the ends to maintain any frizz and hairspray to hold.

Root regrowth and fringe

23/04/2020
Firstly I sectioned the hair in to 4 (hot cross bun section), and then I began applying the product to the roots working up in sections. I made sure to cover all of the roots. Once finished I then rinsed efficiently and towel dried the hair. I then used scissors and a cutting comb to cut the fringe. I used club cutting and free hand techniques. I blow dried the hair with a flat brush and then applied heat protection before smoothing down with straighteners. I then applied serum to smooth any frizz and hairspray to hold.

Finger waves

29/04/2020
Evaluation- I think that the finger waves turned out okay however, they weren’t as neat as I had hoped. I struggled a little as I didn’t have curling tongs available and improvised with straighteners which I find made it more fiddly. I also found that the styles of my training heads made this task a little harder as they had either short layers or a fringe. Next time I would use curling tongs for the initial curls. I think that the technique will become easier with practice.

29/04/2020
I continued the finger waves technique over the full head. It was hard to keep all of the waves going in the same direction and it was difficult working with this hairstyle. However, I enjoyed this retro look and will continue to practice.

T-section foils highlights, blow and up-do

06/05/2020
I started by sectioning the hair into a T-section, I then wove the hair using a pin tail comb, applied the product, and placed into foils neatly starting from the bottom of the sections and working up. I then rinsed away the product efficiently and towel dried the hair before blow drying with a round brush and hand dryer. Once dry, I braided the hair from the nape and created a simple up-do with pins and sprayed with hairspray to hold.

1940’s inspired style 1

13/05/2020
I loosely curled the hair using straighteners and parted the hair on the side. I then created 2 victory rolls and pinned into place. I then pinned up the sides of the hair to create a sleeker look from the side profile and brushed out the curls at the back to soften the curls. I then set in place with hairspray. I found the victory rolls a little tricky at first but I spent around 10 minutes practicing them and trying different rolling techniques until I felt I had achieved the desired look. I struggled to keep the pins discrete with this look and so next time I would figure out a way to create the same look without having any pins showing.

1940’s inspired style 2

13/05/2020
Here I sectioned the front of the hair and created a large, voluminous roll and pinned it into place. Then I brushed up the sides neatly to create a sleek look from the front and side profile. I then curled the rest of the hair and pinned into barrel shaped curls, sprayed with hairspray and left to cool. I then took out the pins and brushed out the curls. I then back-combed the ends of the hair and began to rolls up upwards whilst gently combing over the teased areas to smooth them down. Once I had the desired shape, I pinned into place and set with hairspray. This was my favourite style of the two I created. I practiced the roll a handful of times to get it right as this these were my first attempt at victory rolls. There isn’t much I would do differently with this style other than continue to practice to better my skills and achieve neater styles.
