I can also learn more about the Jazz and music that was being created. Close ended questions are very informative. However, they do give you minimal detail which is an issue for me in some cases.

Step 5

1. Why is there a frame that divides the mural?
2. Why did the artist illustrate circus people and trapeze artists?
3. I would like to dive into the artistic time period associated with it as well.

Step 6

For a deeper understanding I would probably watch an educational video about the music of the 1920's. I would also probably observe different paintings from the time period. I think I would also research common entertainment from the 1920's.

After observing this painting I can infer that the 1920's were a very lively time. The picture is teeming with smiles and excitement. I observed that the music during the 1920's seems to be very classical due to the men in suits. The 1920's looked like a very extravagant time to be alive.

Step 7

1. I learned that the roaring twenties was a time to be celebrating and living in complete luxury for the people illustrated in the picture.
2. I learned that there is more to paintings than what the naked eye can see alone.
3. I am wondering what elements the artist took into consideration when illustrating this work of art.

You can also say more so you have a better idea of the question being asked. An advantage for close ended questions is that you have a definitive answer so you can be more confident in your response.

Step 5

Why are they all dressed fancy? In what city is this meant to show? C
Is this met to be a criterium of the crushing class divided and covered by lawlessness in the jazz age where most were oppressed and didn't have enough food and 20 percent had all wealth and power or was it a representation of the joy of hardwork and reaping rewards in the jazz age? O
In the picture is it met to show the separation from fath and transition to greed and lust between John D. Rockefeller and Ed. H.R. Green. O
In what setting is this met to show the old age of class of the golden age entering into the lawlessness and flamboyance of the jazz age? O
In which setting of reword the passive or the incopassive of the jazz age? C
Step 5
Is this met to be a criterium of the crushing class divided and covered by lawlessness in the jazz age where most were oppressed and didn't have enough food and 20 percent had all wealth and power or was it a representation of the joy of hardwork and reaping rewards in the jazz age? O
In the picture it is meant to show the separation from fath and transition to greed and lust between John D. Rockefeller and Ed. H.R. Green. O
In what setting is this met to show the old age of class of the golden age entering into the lawlessness and flamboyance of the jazz age? O
Step 6
The gilded age was the beginning of the upper class in America, the roaring 20’s opened up to people to make it to the upper class. From the big parties of Long Island to the mobs of chicago and philadelphia. The big band jazz and the consumption of alcohol, the separation from the faith in religion to the lust and sloth and greed for the new age of the rich. The luxury of the new age and the future.
Step 7
I learned about the source of the famous painting.
From the painting.
What was the true intention of the panting?

Who inspired Benton to paint this? - C
Think
The advantages of writing open ended questions is that it can get more information out of a response. The disadvantage is that it might not be the right way to approach something where as a closed question might be better in the situation. The advantages of a closed question is that it gets strait to the point and answers the question directly.
Step 5

What is he trying to illustrate? - O

What inspired Benton to make this? - O

How does the music genre of this time effect how he illustrated the mural? - O

Rationale and Reflection
I chose these questions because out of the questions I've asked, I feel these are the most important. In my opinion I think that open ended questions will give me more information and that is what I want in this scenario because I don't know much about the roaring twenties or the mural.
Step 6
If I were to further investigate I would probably ask what the conflict was about in our country. The wealth brought us happiness that the country was doing good economically but it was really just a time of figuring things out. Everyone started to act the same, listen to the same music, and this brought hatred in our country.
Step 6 - A
Based on Benton's painting I can conclude that the roaring twenties was a time of new fashion, new styles, new music, and a new way of life. It brought people together and into the cities.
Step 7
1. I learned that the roaring twenties was not a time of prosperity, but a time of civil reform. There was people angry with others because of their rights or because of the fact they shared the same views.
2. I learned it mostly from research. The painting was a little hard to break apart and understand, but the research let me put all the pieces together.
3. I am wondering how the women prospered from this because this is during a time of when they did not have the rights that a male did. I wonder if they prospered the same as the other Americans did.

Step 3 + 4:
1. Who is Thomas Benton? -C
2. Why are there a lot of people dancing? -O
3. What kind of music are they dancing to? -C
4. Why is their an article that has the word vote?-O
5. Why is there a kid in the painting when the rest of the people are adults? -O
6. Why are the majority of people in the painting adults? -O
7. Why are the majority of the men are in suits? -O
8. Why is it called Epic Mural and not just a mural of the Roaring Twenties? -O
9. Why is the majority of the women in sleeveless wear? -O
10. Why is there a man with a spear in the background(top right)? -O
11. What kind of dresses are they wearing?
12. Why is their an article or something with the word smoke? -O

Open to close/ Close to Open:
2. What kind of dancing are they doing? -C
9. Why are they wearing dresses?

Disadvantages/Advantages:
The advantage of my open-ended question is that it will most likely cause a debate which I think is good because maybe a classmate has never thought of it a certain way and that changes their perspective. The disadvantage of my open-ended questions is that their not really specific and most of my questions might need to be researched when some other questions are plain and simple. The advantage of close-ended questions is that they are simple and there is only one answer. The disadvantage of my close-ended question is that you would have to do research to get the right answer and one of my questions could be multiple answers.

Step 5:
1. Why are there a lot of people dancing? -O

2. Why is their an article that has the word vote?-O

3. Why is their an article or something with the word smoke? -O

Rationale + Reflection:

I picked these three questions because I think these three questions might accurately show us if this is what the 1920s were. I picked the first one because is this a time where dancing a big thing and the same with the third question is this a time where smoking was a big thing. I know at one point doctors said that smoking was actually healthy for you but today we know there could be consequences for smoking cigarettes or anything. I picked the second question because in the 1920s when women finally
received the right to vote.

Step 6:
I could look further into the painting, search up the painting, and maybe find an analysis of the painting. I could also look into the author and find out what his style is of painting like how authors write their books. Every artist or author usually have their own style of writing or painting. I could also look into how America was doing before the Great Depression because that happened in the '30s.

Step 6-A:
The "Roaring Twenties" looks lively and looks very pretty. I'm assuming that in the twenties America was thriving in the economy. All the guys have nice suits and all the women have dresses on and have their hair done. I also think that's when movements and protest started to become a thing because there is a vote thing and I know women have never always been to vote.

Step 7:

1. I learned that the 1920s was a very lively and wealthy time for America with all their nice suits and dresses.

2. I learned it mostly from the painting but I do remember some things in History class about voting and the time before the Great Depression.

3. Did spending all of this money on high fashion things (Clothes, Cigarettes) cause the Great Depression or at least contribute a good amount to the Great Depression? Is this when movements and protests became a big thing?

Step 3 + 4
1.. Who are the people in the painting? - C
2. Are they celebrating anything? - C
3. Why are they dancing? - O
4. What is the girl doing in the top right painting? - O
5. Who is Thomas Benton? - C
6. What music are they listening to? - C
7. Why are they all dressed up? - C
8. What is Benton trying to illustrate? - O
9. Why is a frame separating the mural?
Think
The advantage to writing open ended questions are it allows the respondents to provide more detail, including emotions , attitudes and the subject 's understanding. The disadvantage is it will give you thoughts and emotions and in doing so allow subjective responses. The advantage to writing closed questions gets right to the point.
Step 5
8. What is Benton trying to illustrate? - O
2. Are they celebrating anything? - C
9. Why is a frame separating the mural? - O
I chose those three questions because out of all the questions I asked I feel theses are the most important questions. And I am very curious to find the answers.
Step 6

If I were to further investigate I would research the 1920's and also look up who Benton is. I would watch some documentaries.
Step 6 - A
Based on Benton's painting I can conclude that the Roaring Twenties was a time where people like to dance and party it was also a time where people liked to listen to music and it was a time of new fashion.
Step 7
1. The Roaring Twenties was a decade of economic growth and widespread prosperity. People liked to party dance and listen to music.
2. I learned by analyzing the picture and doing research.
3. I am wondering if all the economical growth and happiness in the in the Roaring Twenties created the downfall of America.

Steps 3/4
1. What kind of instruments did they use to play music in the 1920s?- O
2. What does the woman flying through the air symbolize?- O
3. Why are all of the men in tuxedos?- O4.
What is the symbolization of the people sitting on the couch?- O
4. Was smoking pretty normalized in 1920?- C
5. Does this mural show a variety of events that happened in 1920 or just what life was like?- O
6. What are the 4 hands doing in the top left corner?- O
7. What does the grey sign that states “VOTE” symbolize?- O
The advantages to my open ended questions is that they are all specific and ask about something that is seen directly in the picture. The disadvantage is that there can be different answers depending on peoples opinions. The advantage of my close ended question is that I am getting a short answer on something kind of different from our society today where we know all of the disadvantages to smoking. The reason i asked this question is because I have heard that back then they had cigarette commercials normalizing them to be a good thing which would never happen in today's world. The disadvantage to my close ended question is that I may not get the full detailed answer that I want.
Step 5
1. Does the mural show a variety of specific events that happened in 1920 or just what life was like in general?
2. Did they know the disadvantages to smoking back in the 1920s, was it normalized, and looked upon as something good to do?
3. What are the four hands doing in the top left corner?
Rationale and Reflection
I chose these three questions because I am most interested in the answers to these three. I'd like to know more about how people lived their lives back in the 1920s and these three questions really answer a good amount of that. I'd also like to know more about this mural which I ask about in my first question. I have many more questions about it after looking at it a few times but I was limited to three.
Step 6
I could use research to my advantage maybe look up the painting and see what comes up, maybe there would be a summary or something like that describing all of the shown events.

Through this painting, I can tell that the roaring twenties seemed like a happy time in peoples lives. The painting shows people dancing, playing music, and just overall living their lives and it seems that the people in the photo are having fun. I learned a bit about the twenties in middle school and from what I remember it was a very happy time in history.
Step 7
1. In this QFT, I learned about the roaring twenties and about this painting. At first when I asked my questions I was a bit unsure of what the painting was supposed to symbolize but now I have a better understanding of it.
2. I learned this by going through the steps and asking questions. This QFT made me curious about what life was like back then and how it relates to a time of today where we are dealing with a global pandemic and social justice issues.
3. I'm now wondering about how much I would rather be in the 1920s then the 2020s as of right now because everyone seems to be truly happy and as of right now it's difficult to do that with all of the different issues in our world

Step 3:

Why are the roaring 20’s so important? -o

Did one person make this time important?-c

What was different about that time period? -o

Who were the most influential people of that time? -o

Was this around the time of the last global pandemic? -c

How has time changed? -o

What did people do for fun at the time? -o

Step 4:
Open ended questions are leave room for much deeper answers and more room for conversation. Closed ended questions don’t allow for the person answering to give there personal thoughts and when u obtain a lot of answers of an open ended question, you will be able to see all of the differences in the answers.

Step 5:

What was different about that time period?
How has time changed?
Who were the most influential people of that time?

I think that these questions are so important because they show how we have grown as humans and how life has changed throughout the decades.

Step 6
Some ways I could go about looking into these questions is lots of research and readings. I don’t believe that these would take much time to find the answers to.

6a
From the painting I get the idea that the 20s were a very fun time and a lot of people were quite happy. I see lots of dancing so I can only assume this period had a lot of music. But one thing I did notice was that the image was not diverse. From my knowledge and from what I see in the image, I think that this time was very tough for many of the minorities in the US.

Step 7:
I learned that there are more ways to get information than just reading and videos by looking at the painting and coming to conclusions about the time period. I am still wondering, who did people look up to at the time. Who were their idols or celebrities?

O
Is there a message behind this painting? C

The advantage of closed questions is that they are easier and faster to respond to. You can compare them more easily with your peers. Easier to understand the answers.

The advantage of open-ended questions is that you can let your mind flow with the answer you would like to answer with. You can try to persuade the person into thinking that you have a very good response. There is an unlimited amount of answers that could be correct.

part 5

1. What story does this tell?
2. Why does the lady wear only red?
3. When was this picture drawn?

Rationale and Reflection
I picked these questions because they all seem very important. The story behind this picture may be very interesting. There could be a reason behind why the woman only wears the color red, maybe a popular color back then. The time that this picture was drawn could have a big impact.

Step 6
I could look further into the author's back story. I could also do research on the painting itself. '

6-A

I can see that the "Roaring Twenties" must have been a fun time period. It looks like new things were starting to pick up. It looked like the time of the youth and how they were starting to grow.

step 7
1. I learned that the twenties were a very lively time. people were having fun and lots of high fashion.
2. I learned this through the great painting that Benton drew.
3. I'm starting to wonder about how people thought during the twenties since you can't really tell from a painting.
