After reading of Emma Goldman, I could not help but love her. "Red Emma," was a passionate and articulate advocate for various social and political causes. Much like Goldman, I also exhibit a commitment to social justice and egalitarian principles. Whether engaging in discussions about individual rights or challenging societal norms, I share a resonance with Goldman's spirit of activism. Additionally, my commitment to open-mindedness and the pursuit of knowledge reflects the intellectual curiosity that was a hallmark of Goldman's life. I channel Goldman's spirit of autonomy, questioning established norms and valuing personal agency.

Embarking on my solo journey to Hawaii marked a profound milestone in my life, a momentous leap into independence that resonated deeply, particularly as a Mexican daughter. As I navigated the vibrant streets of Honolulu and felt the warm embrace of the Pacific breeze, I couldn't help but marvel at the significance of this experience. The lush landscapes and turquoise waters bore witness to my newfound sense of autonomy, and every step I took echoed the courage it took to venture beyond familiar horizons. Amidst the breathtaking scenery, I discovered a strength within myself that transcended cultural expectations, proving that as a Mexican daughter, I could navigate the world on my own terms.

Growing up in a catholic household meant going to church every Sunday and having to complete the three sacraments ceremonies without much clarification or decision-making on my part. Unfortunately, that is most Latinx/Mexican families and to me, that was not how I wanted to express commitment to the Catholic faith. I had the same experience with La Virgen de Guadalupe, she is not the same woman figure I looked up to, mostly because I knew I could not be as pure as the church described her. As I grew older and with popular culture present, I now have a different symbolism of the image of Guadalupe. Sandra Cisneros's story in "Guadalupe, the Sex Goddess," speaks about the way she reinterpreted her as a sex goddess and broke away from the traditional portrayal. I too, similarly to Cisneros, was ashamed to learn about sex with outside sources. Being scolded that having sex and getting pregnant at a young age is a sin, was all that I was taught. Cisneros said it best, no one tells you how not to. La Virgen was a constant reminder to be pure, but La Virgen I recognize now, is one that makes me feel comfortable in my body and my choices.

A group of Latinx students gathered for a Hip-Hop Artist. If I were to say with to my grandmother, I can already hear her correcting me. The term "Latinx" is not in her vocabulary and she does not understand the importance of the use of this gender-neutral term. I would love to send her the YouTube video, "What's the difference between Hispanic, Latino, and Latinx?" Yet, she will not respect the use of "Latinx" which is more commonly used in progressive and inclusive spaces and is an attempt to move away from gendered language. The introduction of "Latinx" reflects a broader societal awareness and acknowledgment of gender diversity, challenging traditional linguistic norms that may reinforce gender binaries.

In the sanctuary of my room, I find solace and refuge, cultivating an intimate haven that resonates with a sense of personal sanctuary. The walls, adorned with memories captured in photographs and artwork, exude warmth and familiarity, creating a cocoon of comfort that shields me from the demands of the outside world. The soft glow of string lights casts a gentle ambiance, contributing to the tranquil atmosphere that defines my safe space. Here, I am free to let my guard down, to unwind and reflect, surrounded by the comforting embrace of my favorite books, cherished belongings, and the soothing rhythm of my chosen playlist. In the confines of these four walls, the outside noise fades away, replaced by a serenity that allows me to recharge and find solace in the simplicity of my own company.
