For this piece, I have researched the artist Marcia Baldwin. I have used the tones that she did in her work and I used the technique of wet on wet with acrylic paint. The colours that I have used are black, white pink and blue. The background is white, with the horse's mane being blue, white and pink. This choice of colour palate makes the horse stand out against the black background. The way the artist has made the horse stand out could show an interest in the animal and draw the viewer's attention to it as it is rather eye-catching.

Leonie Astbury

I have created this piece using watercolour, colour pencil and oil pastel. I have learnt how to blend the watercolours to show different tones. I used the oil pastel to show the darker tones and add texture. This piece shows strong shapes and vivid colour .I have used colour pencil to show some areas In more detail and focus. The artist Georgia O’Keeffe has inspired my work. Her piece that I studied and interpreted in my own style used bright, bold colours to show close ups of her flowers with a range of dark to light tones. I aim to now further my work by experimenting with printing, I could do this by creating a lino print onto a watercolour background onto fabric and stitch into areas to show a different texture and more detail.

This piece of work is based on the main actor in my favourite movie, 'fifty shades of grey'. this peice is a realistic, detailed, tonal shading drawing of Jamie Dornon. i have drew this as
i have arranged my worked by backing it on to brightly coloured card to contrast with the tonal shading, as personally, i think tonal shading does not allow me to express his emotions and how he actually looks in real life.
to complete a realistic look, i had used different shades (e.g. 6B-2H)
and different shading technuiqes and mark making for different aspects of his face. for example, for his hair, i used long, strand-like lines to represent a long, smart, styled look, whereas with his facial hair, i used more a forceful, mark making technuique to produce a rough texture, to show the scruffy look on his beard. with his eyes, i did not produce enough detail, meaning emotion could not be expressed, his face has no expression. if i was to redo this peice, i would enlarge it to allow more detail to be added, and i would possibly change the media to colour pencil or acrylic.

I have used the same technique as the artist by drawing roughly in byro and painting outside of the lines. The artist may have chosen to draw a deer in a sitting position to give off an image of vulnerability and maybe reflect how the artist feels about the animal. Another interpretation could be that the artist has captured the behaviour of the animal.

The materials I have used are acrylic paint and a little bit of water colour paint to wash over the acrylic paint to add more detail into the back ground, I have also used ink to complete. the work of the artist is like scribbling with ink or Biro on the coluorful back ground and it looks like buildings on top of each other.

For this piece, I have chosen the Image of a pear to draw and experiment with media on. For one segment of the pear, I have used pencil. The different pencils that I used were HB and 2B. I used these pencils as they allowed me to be able to get the appropriate tones and blend accurately. For another segment, I used coloured pencils. The colours I used were green, yellow and brown. This was to create the accurate tones and blend them more easily to make the pear as realistic as possible. For the last segment, I used acrylic paint. The colours I used were green, yellow and white. This was also to make the pear as accurate as possible. For the background, I used different types of paper, such as book pages, orange sugar paper, marbled paper and brown parcel paper. This was to create a more diverse and eye catching piece to engage the viewer and make them interested in what I drew.

Leonie Astbury
