After watching the video, I am still inspired to be of loving service to other people. Oftentimes, we only think of ourselves and not others. However, agreeing with Ongkiko, I believe that if we were to strive for greatness and share that greatness with others , we could fix the broken system in the present. Helping others may not be the easiest as you have to go beyond yourself. But in the process of doing so, natutunan natin "maging tao para sa kapwa at maging tao na nakikilakbay sa kapwa" (Ongkiko).

After watching the video, my wanting to helping as many people as I can was reignited within me. As almost 3 years of college have passed me by, I have only been thinking about how this course will benefit me and the fruits of my labor. Everytime I participated in or did something, I always imagined how this would look good in my resume or how these things that I would learn would help me in my adult life. I had almost completely neglected the fact that not only was I here to help myself but others as well. However, now, I remembered that not only am I here to help myself but as well as the people around me

Her story inspires me to be more loving and compassionate towards others. In everything that we do, we can do it in a way that uplifts others, so we should always choose the path of love and solidarity. Seeing her discover and respond to her vocation or calling also made me realize the importance following your passion and listening to your heart. Despite the plan of going to med school, she still didn't push through in the end because she realized that she had another purpose and she wasn't afraid to change directions and do what she finds meaningful.

I imagine one of the perennial fears of young people especially students, is the fear of being swallowed up by the problems of adulthood. The problems of income and security, providing for yourself and your family, the fear of the uncertain political and future of the Philippines. These fears often make the most well meaning of individuals turn away from pursuits that would help the community, in order to pursue carriers that allow them to become wealthy or move abroad regardless of their interest in said fields. I think what inspires me the most about Ms. Ongkikos story is her bravery. To turn down a prestigious career in medicine, which she had building upon her entire life and suddenly turn towards becoming a teaching volunteer, shows bravery against all of the preconceptions that are ingrained upon us from a very young age, especially from people who care about you such as your friends and family. This I think highlights the the selfness of the choice as she did not choose to shift due to her own interests, nor the interests of her close friends and family, but rather the interests of the community who we are often indoctrinated to put last in our lives, and whom we often only see as an abstract concept. Truly it is the bravery to see the humanity in those who we do not know that inspires us all.

Sabs Ongkiko’s story inspires me to reflect on the decisions I’ve already made and on the opportunities that I can take that can benefit more people rather than just myself. It allows me to think of a less selfish option that can create a better community where everyone can learn to share and be selfless. Unlike Sabs Ongkiko and her natural pull towards serving others, I realised that it may be harder for me to reach her level of generosity. However, her story has moved me to start thinking of others and looking towards the positive impact that I can place on others. With this, it gives me the drive to work harder to become a person who can give back to society.

Her story inspired me to look deeper into the things I commit my energy to. She talked about how the small decisions in her life cumulatively shaped the bigger decisions she was yet to make. Despite the notion that countless limitations bind us to certain places and positions in life, by proactively choosing the more loving option in the many chances we get, we also accumulate small contributions that create bigger ripples of impact in our society. I understand that in life, we will always have to make choices that will pave the way for our bigger journeys, but in these choices, we can also decide to make the trip worthwhile not just for us, but also for others.

In the pursuit of success, it's not uncommon for people to lose sight of their values. Although it is admirable for a person to be driven, I think there are more important things that we, as humans, have to consider, including but not limited to our health, moral compass, and soul. This is exactly the principle that Ms. Ongkiko followed in her life. In her desire for service, she decided to teach in a public school. It's inspiring to see that, even with the many opportunities or jobs presented to her, she opted to go for one of service - one that aligned with her own values.

Her one step towards her true passion of education, instead of medicine, has caused a ripple within her that may have showed her her true calling. Her story showed me that I should not be afraid of going for what I am passionate about. To not care for what others may think and to be selfish and selfless at the same. Selfish in a way that I should decide what is best for myself and to be brave enough to face challenges head on. But selfless in a way that I should be comfortable enough to go out of my own way to do what I deem best for my community and those who live in it.

It saddens me to realize I don't have the same enthusiasm and excitement to learn as I once had back then during the F2F setting. However, when I go back to how Sabs highlights this "going out of ourselves", I am reminded once again that this journey I am on isn't just for myself. It's for me to be able to do my part in the world, to do my part for others and with others. Her talk brings me back to why I started this path in the first place - that while it is difficult and not what I expected, remembering and keeping in mind my intentions can keep the fire inside me alive.

Despite spending many years studying and preparing to pursue a career in medicine, she chose another path after taking a closer look into her past decisions and determining where her passion truly lies. Although it may not be easy, her story inspires me to get to know myself much better and to be brave in making decisions. While I am still in the process of figuring out what exactly I want to do for my career, I realized that life is not just about trying to achieve one's goals but to also work towards becoming a person for others. It is inspiring to hear her story from having the dream and opportunity of becoming a successful doctor to eventually dropping that career and shifting towards becoming a public school teacher focused on serving others due to the impact she saw with her numerous small acts of giving in the past. While we should still try to achieve our goals in life, every opportunity that could potentially help others should never be turned down.

What struck me most about Ongkiko is her honesty. I imagine that she was an ordinary college student, not unlike me, whose life was building up to something. I think that it is not uncommon for many young people to believe that the trajectory of their college lives will build up to something grand—or at least something proportionate to the grand pressures that dominate their personal, social, and national lives. For Ongkiko, it was medical school. Undoubtedly, she was pursuing a noble vocation, one that draws praise from most anyone. But for her to do a 180—seemingly at the last minute—especially when there are arguably more reasons not to do so—it requires tremendous honesty to choose something that, objectively, is more taxing and thankless. But I am willing to wager that had Ongkiko proceeded with her initial plans, something would have weighed on her in the long run. I cannot overstate how difficult it is—especially for me—to be honest, and go against the ways I have been set in. The pressures that accompany the specificity of my identity provide incentives for me to pursue something safe, something familiar, something that pays, and more often than not, something that is not as fulfilling. I am yet to reach Ongkiko's level of honesty, but thankfully her story offers a place to start: I think it is about time that I look more intently at all the small, quotidian decisions I make. I think I just might find opportunities to resist impulses that prevent me from recognizing, let alone choosing the more loving choice.

The story of Sabs Ongkiko opened my eyes to the reality of vocation—that although it is not the most obvious choice, it is almost always the most natural choice for us. When Ms. Ongkiko was talking about her dilemma in choosing between going to med school and teaching, she was able to paint a picture that clearly depicted the nuances between what is most obvious and what is most natural. Most of the time, the most natural of choices are not the most immediately evident. For her, the seemingly obvious choice was to go to med school, for she has been studying biology for four years. However, the most natural choice was teaching, for all her life, she has devoted her free time in educating others. When we do something with genuine love and passion, it becomes part of our self that it becomes almost unintentional, and it always takes a little bit of effort to look for.

She reminds me that purpose and success isn't only founded on some material metric but it's also founded in being able to be there for the people and the community around you to collaboratively work towards lifting one another up. She also further inspires me because she leaned into her heart of service and her past experiences to be able to create meaningful and loving value to the people around her. I believe this inspires me because, as a person who's also experienced and grown in service of communities, churches, and schools, I too want to be able to find the ability to continue making meaningful change with my life moving forward.

I've been involving myself the past few years in constant programs and missionary work through community visits, church development, catechism activities, and community feeding activities. This reminded me of my desire to be able to keep continuing this act of service and love towards communities and sectors that need it especially considering the lack of the ability to do these activities in the New Normal. I've personally found a lot of formation and compassion for my fellow people through these and this has reignited my desire to serve and be there for the partner communities that I've formed meaningful relationships with.

As someone who always chooses the safest option, Ongkiko’s story serves as a wake-up call to me that we should not neglect the small decisions that we made because these are the decisions that we have done without questioning nor contemplating if we wanted to do it. I loved her insight about already having chosen teaching through her previous small actions. It is through looking to the past that we can make sense of the present and see into the future. I also loved the reminder that the story doesn't end there. To love is a choice. To love everyday is a harder choice. However, those everyday decisions to love others in whatever we do is how we, in the end, choose to be a loving person. Just like her small actions and decisions of teaching in the past, our small decisions to love in everything we do is also what will remind us in the future to choose to love.

The word that stuck to me the most was the word "panindigan" and the question "dito ba akong magiging mas mapagmahal?". I think there are times wherein I start second guessing myself, and tend to focus on what seems "easier" or less challenging because I get tired with everything going on in the world right now. That is where passion and purpose falls into place. It feels hard to find what truly makes us passionate if we aren't open to it. Sabs reignited the concept of putting passion driven purpose to make a difference in not only our lives, but the lives of those around us -- and maybe, they can do the same for those around them.

I often neglect the tiny decisions I make daily, forgetting that with each decision I make, I am also determining which personal desires and values I will pursue. Those small decisions, taken altogether, shape the persons we will become - whether or not it is a person for others is something we must be aware of and mindful of, because choosing to be loving and unselfish is challenging and something that some people often overlook. In contrast to the means through which people nowadays choose their paths in life, she based them off her decisions from the past, regardless of how seemingly simple and minute they were. Despite her humble background, she can still choose the more loving option in small ways, such as setting up the youth community during high school and teaching public school students during college, becoming a Jesuit volunteer after college, and a public school teacher now. In our capitalist society, we have grown to associate success with the salary that we get from our employers or business. In terms of material wealth, a public school teacher earns less than a doctor, the profession that Sabs could have gone to if she pushed through with her medical degree. However, she chose the more loving option and became a person for others. Sabs inspired me to redefine my notion of what “success” is. What are the more loving choices that I can do for my society? The past days, I have been very much discouraged by the things ongoing with the country that I often daydreamed of just leaving the country and save myself from the chaos. However seeing Ms. Ongkiko, I got reminded of my resolve when I applied for college - I asked the admissions team to help me achieve my dream of being a doctor that would be serving my fellow Filipinos, especially the marginalized and underserved.

What struck me the most about Sabs Ongkiko's story was her decision to give up on being a doctor to pursue teaching. This was odd to me because it felt like doctors and teachers are in similar spots of offering aid to people, though in different ways of course, but I realized that I was only asking this question because of the notion I had that she was giving up a better future as a doctor. I realized that her story is one that is built around following one's own dream in life and finding the way through which one would be able to be the most satisfied with who they are, the story therefore inspires me to consider more closely what exactly I want from my life rather than what is expected of me.

For someone who had a fair share of difficulty in choosing, I can relate with Sabs Ongkiko so much. If you'd ask me what I want to do or my life-long when I was a freshie, I'd say to make "healthcare for children accessible". Fast forward to now, where true, I still want to be a pediatrician, but I do recognize my other passions and advocacies like graphic design, sustainability, and public speaking to the point that they all mesh together. I want to make healthcare for children not only accessible, but also sustainable and visually approachable, and I'm inspired to choose the more loving option not only for my immediate sphere but for others as well during my journey to get there.

There are those things I deeply regret, but all that I cannot change anymore so I need to focus on making good of what I have now. I was led to think about what I might be doing in the future and how it seems impossible to discover what I truly want to be doing or what I should be doing. I also realized how the choices I make for myself are not solely for myself as they can affect others as well. In that sense, I hope to be able to make choices that let me do more purposeful things for myself and others alike.

I believe that it is not just with that one snap of a finger and all will fall into place. It takes time and an open heart to little by little see the real significance of all the things that we do in life. I can say that the "fire" to be of a helping hand to others, most especially to the ones in need, has been further ignited even though all of us are living in a challenging time like this. To be a lesser brother to all and to heed that call of service will always be the main drivers that urges me to treat others as much as I love and care myself. Thus, awakening that sense of minority in doing things that will forge a selfless "I" that knows how to think about the wellbeing of all.

Ms. Sabs Ongkiko's talk showed me that choosing a vocation often means allowing both what you love and what you can share coexist. This story inspired me by telling me to be aware of all my actions and decisions, even the mundane ones. I personally still don't know what I want to be after college or put into a more macro scale, my vocation. But I think that, as early as now, I should look into retracing my steps and see where my decisions and intentions lie, whether it be in the classes I enjoy, the internships I apply for, or even the organizations I find myself most active in. By doing so, I feel like I will be able to see a direction in which my actions are leading me towards. Realizing one's vocation is not necessarily an easy or straight-forward path to take but I personally feel like you'll know what your vocation is once you feel it in the things you do, just as Ms. Ongkiko mentioned when making her small decisions.

What I can say for sure, however, is that through high school and college, I've ignited a passion for people-oriented leadership through instances of facilitation and member relations, a recurring theme present in the positions I hold and the organizations I am a part of and my intent to apply for a Strategic Human Resource Management minor.

This also meant often choosing the people again and again everyday in the same way Ms. Ongkiko chose the children and education every day. I like the part where she says it's difficult to be a loving person, to have to wake up everyday and choose to love the people even when it is much easier to be more selfish. Stretching yourself in order to uphold the people you love takes a great amount of sacrifice and is honorable in itself even if it sometimes feels thankless. Even so, it is also true that we become better people in the process of helping other people. We better our societies and the system and the people around us by being true to ourselves and serving our people. Listening to her speak reignited my disposition and it was a great source of recharging strength. Manindigan.

Similar to Ongkiko, I went to Ateneo as a premed student under the Health Sciences program; however, I shifted to Environmental science a year later because I didn't meet Health Sciences minimum QPI and I thought it would be fun to try it out. Although I am currently using my program as a pre-med, as time went on, I'm slowly realize that despite liking what the medical field has to offer, I'm slowly realizing that I also very passionate with how the environmental field affects the health sector such as topics like environmental pollution and impact assessments. the funny thing is, I wanted to learn more about these topics more than the medical field. At this point in time, all, if not most, of what I've achieved academically my life revolve around science and service. That said, although I suppose I'm building myself for a career in such (specifically becoming a doctor), I am still greatly overwhelmed by it all. I often ask myself: Do I really want this? Is it worth it? Am I capable and will I be able to handle it?

While becoming a doctor may seem dreadful to me at the moment, God has given me the opportunity to look at other career paths that are involved in healthcare but are not limited to being a doctor. Going back, Sabs encountered an obstacle which gave her the opportunity to look at service in a new light. As such, she then followed her dream and became a loving teacher instead of a doctor. In my case, I think whether I become a doctor or stick to a career in Psychology, I would still be able to serve a sector in society, thus allowing me to achieve my own dream of being of service to others. Ultimately, she inspired me to look deeper into what I want to achieve in life while being mindful of keeping an open-mind towards new possibilities and challenges I may encounter as I move forward in my own journey.

The idea that resonated with me the most from Sabs Ongkiko's story was her focus on youth and education and how we should be united in achieving a common goal for society. During these times of technological advancements, we are often blinded by how social media can portray success and fulfillment — these steer us away from what may truly matter to us. Her story serves as a reminder to understand that we are in a race with ourselves and not with others, that hopefully, we become servants towards society rather than slaves of it.

Sabs Ongkiko inspired me to choose the path that leads to service to those you care about the most. She did not know that her heart was in serving the youth and education, but upon realizing this, she knew that becoming a public school teacher is the right choice. It made me think if being a management student is truly the right path for me. Being a student activist, becoming a future business owner seems very well off course. But I think with the heart that is for service, everything can be done for the betterment of the community.

As much as this made sense to me, I never really understood how one can find his purpose. Talks and books always make the process of finding one's purpose and epiphany - a single life-changing moment. Sabs Ongkiko's talk diverts from this trend and has reminded me that it is indeed the little things that matter.

While milestone life decisions are important, these more often than not stem from the everyday decisions we make and how those minute decisions formed our self-hood. Ongkiko's talk reminded me to be more aware of the decisions I make in the everyday - to be aware of what I truly value in making those decisions. The talk has made me realize that finding one's purpose or vocation is not a single moment - rather, a continuous process of learning and listening to one's heart and society's pulse.

While this calling may be obvious to us, Sab Ongkiko reminds us that we must be brave enough to take the first step to pursue it and to see it through. I think that building relationships with others and knowing more about different communities and society in general can be the first step to leave a lasting positive impact in the lives of others. Theres no right way to help for as long as our intentions are pure and are out of compassion and love. Throughout her time doing what she wanted in her youth, she realized - ether consciously or subconsciously - where her passions lay and where she felt like she could accomplish the most good in her life. As such, she had found her vocation in those passions. Even though she had spent a good portion of her life training to be a doctor, she had chosen to become a teacher. I often asked myself, "Is this the job that I really want to work on?" because I was constantly stretched beyond my limits. However, her story awakened my desire of pushing through even during the rough moments for the service of other people. Sab Ongkiko's story reignited my desire to contribute more to research about aquaculture and agriculture in the country because farmers and fisherfolks are among the poorest communities in the country. I would like to alleviate their struggles through science and technology. I know that this is a tough task for anyone but I believe that as long as I always choose the more loving option my passion becomes a commitment that will never run out of fuel.

After hearing the story of Sabs Ongkiko, for a moment, I thought about what I desired again. I consider myself to be very uncertain about many things, with my future being one of the biggest of those. Even now, I still doubt how far I can take myself in life. Through her talk, I was inspired to be more calm and self-reflecting. If my mind is constantly disturbed, I wouldn't be able to move forward. Her talk reminded me that I'm still early on in my life, and that many opportunities will still come up -- that there is still so much time for me to choose the loving option. I'll continue to do my best to grasp those opportunities from now on, and I'll make the most of what I have in my present time.

It challenges me to discern and choose the more loving option or whichever would bring more joy. Not just joy for me but hopefully for others as well.

What really struck was how she explained that the small decisions that she chose to make in the past helped her decide in making a much bigger decision. During these times, I've been faced with several decisions not knowing what to choose or how to discern. And, honestly I think that her advice will really help me be more purposeful moving forward. I also think this idea ties in well with the fact that we are meant to respond to God's call. We may not realize it now but those small decisions and the actions we chose to make in the past will help us realize and appreciate his calling in the future.

When I started out in college here in the Ateneo back in 2019, I was brimming with so much plans and desires. However, the covid pandemic came all of a sudden and locked us all at our homes, and this kinda pushed me back a little bit. I leaned towards becoming more of an introvert again and just worried about my own academics. I hope to once again get back that spark I had when I was a freshman and find my vocation soon.

I think what Ms. Ongkiko's talk reignited in me is the desire to be of service to other people. Growing up, when asked about what I wanted to be, I would often say, with that conviction little children always had when talking about their dreams, that I wanted to become a doctor because I wanted to "heal and save lives". For whatever reason, I find that this primary purpose had been lost along the way and for the longest time has been overlooked by myself. These past few years I would assess my goals and plan my life based on what I think would allow me to live the most comfortable life and work a lucrative job and become rich, and whatnot. The desire for service wasn't at the forefront of my priority anymore and I find that this may be one of the reasons why I seem to have apprehensions and uncertainties about my future now -- I lost my "why". Ms. Ongkiko's talk, however, reignited this desire through her dedication and passion to become a more loving individual. Like her advice, I don't want to be solely matalino or mayaman or successful, I want to be someone who uses whatever skills and resources I was able to gather through the years and use it to lift others up in the name of genuine love for others.

I'm encouraged and inspired because she already finished her premed course yet she still chose to be a public teacher. This shows that we are never too late to decide on what we really want to do, and to go to where we are really called to go. Her story inspired me to pause, reflect and look at what my heart really desires, what I have been doing, what I am happy and passionate about, where can I use my talents and strengths and where can I be more loving? I hope that through this, I will see where I want to be and where I am called to be. I am inspired to open my eyes, extend who I am for others.

I really have a desire to help the poor and uplift the future of the children. Last semester, we have developed a business product that aims to do this not just for the Philippines but around the world. It is a product that tackles stunting in children which affects their future, and increases their poverty. However, due to time constraints with the expected output of our thesis, since they expect us to sell before the end of the school year, we are not able to pursue. The product we came up with requires thorough research, experts and testing for safety and effectivity. It requires a big investment. Now that I am alone, honestly, looking at how long it may take me to really evaluate the effectivity of the product, how hard it seems to succeed, its risks, it scares me to pursue it. I am worried about investing in this where in the end it may not even work. However, thinking about it, seeing the poor lives of the children, I believe, it is worth trying. I am given this opportunity of being open to this problem, to start it and do something about it hence, I am hoping to use my platform, my field in the business to do something, go out of my way and help them. I am reignited to look not on the returns of what I want to pursue on myself but rather look at the returns it will give to others which makes it worthwhile. It may be ideal to change the world but I hope that through this, I get to help in changing someone's world.

This has caused a great amount of anxiety for many people wondering if the choices they make are enough and if they themselves are adequate. I think it is refreshing to look at her story as it is one of courage and love. She chose the more loving option despite what society wanted. As she prioritized a community above her own needs. In life, our decisions and their consequences are often unknown to us. This is why taking that leap of faith for Sab Ongkiko is something I hope to be able to do. To that end I was inspired to reflect upon my choices and compromise between whats good for me and what is good for others. not everyone has had the same help I have and it's high time to pay that forward.

To be rather honest, I think I or even any other person was more likely to choose the medical over the educational profession simply because it was the "greener pasture." However, Ms. Ongkiko's decision to choose the educational field, while a bit puzzling, certainly deserves respect. She built up the courage to go with the educational field and dedicate her life to the youth and the education thereof.

Sabs Ongkiko's story inspired to take a moment to see the options I chose and why I chose them. It is not easy to make a decision such as choosing education over medicine, especially in our society which favors the later. Yet, for her it was never about what is more lucrative and secure, but about what she was actually passionate for. While both professions are able to help others, education was the field where she saw herself reaching and helping others the most. It made realize that if we want to actually have an impact with what we do, we not only need the knowledge and skills but also the passion to get us through. From her story I've also realized that we do not always need to choose the biggest and flashiest to be helpful to others. Small choices can be the more loving and humane option to make. We do not need to be the top of our field or win awards to be able to help others, we can start in whatever position we are in regardless.

Her story made me want to actually find a way to combine my passion with the course I'm taking right now. I feel as if we can become better professionals and actually help others when we love what we do. Interesting enough, I found myself relating to Sabs Ongkiko's passion for educating the youth. I realize I have always had a interest in sharing knowledge with children in small ways. I have always made an effort at giving away my books to my younger relatives and libraries. I realize I don't need to force myself to conform to my course when I know it won't be beneficial to myself and others. I have full control of my choices and I can choose to find a way to achieve my passion.

It reminded me that life is bigger than just ourselves. The world doesn't revolve around what we want. Each and every one of us has our own calling, a calling to serve others and uplift each other. Often times, we focus on just ourselves and how our actions can benefit us and those close to us. However, living a life like that is not fulfilling, personally. Her compassionate soul made me realize that some things are just bigger than you. The universe calling on you to do bigger things.

After watching the video, my want to be of service to other people was reignited. Before the pandemic, I would join feeding outreaches to the slums in Happyland, Tondo and evangelize to them as well. When the pandemic happened, that stopped, but it is something that I am still truly passionate about. These people are always painted in a bad light, but in reality, all they need is hope and a full stomach, which the government fails to provide. I have seen with my own two eyes, children eager to go to school, parents motivated to go look for work again, people who have once lost hope regaining that very thing. That is what I want to do.

Her story inspired me to still move forward with my life as a BS Environmental Science student not as a pre-med, but as an actual environmental scientist who wants to help people conserve and care about the environment more. Like her, I was pressured to be an industrial/management engineer like my parents and end up with a corporate/entrepreneurial job. While I highly respect people of that profession, I think I would make a much bigger impact towards the overall goal of caring for the environment if I focus my talents more on research and development. I understand my parents are just worried about my financial future, but life for me is more than just that.

I, as similar to many other people, always strive and crave to be happy and with Sabs Ongkiko's talk, I was inspired to do the same for others. Through choosing the more loving option, hopefully, I could help others to have that chance to also live a good, happy, and meaningful life. It could be through my works when I become a health professional in the future, but also, I don't want to limit it with just that aspect. As much as I can, I'd like to be there for and with them as much as they would allow and as my capabilities would permit. After all, we (everyone) are brothers and sisters that belong to one human family and our care/love should transcend all gaps and barriers and really, be of help and service to one another.

That amidst the fragmentation, separateness, and brokenness of society, more so in this time of pandemic, I hope and desire that we, especially myself, can move more towards that act of caring, loving, and respecting others (not just the people, but also, the animals, environment, & all resources/gifts of God). That hopefully, more of us, if not all, will strive to always choose and embody the more loving option, whether through our personal or professional acts/initiatives, where we try to be more and to do more with and for others, especially those who are really in need.
