I took this photo while on a trip and I felt like the texture emphasizes the focal point. Also, the focus. Since the background is blurry and it is a close-up of the plant, it is easy to tell what the main idea of the picture is. The plant also follows the rule of thirds as it is mainly in the middle and right side of the photograph. I think it was successful because I think I accomplished my goal of creating an interesting contrast. Using the elements of photography, texture was a leading element throughout the photo. The individual hairs draw emphasis to the pupil which contrasts the eyelashes and eyebrows to the skin surrounding it. Contrast also focuses the viewer's eye to the hazel color of the eye which had a medium/dark tone against the fair skin. I took this picture from a slightly lower viewpoint which creates the illusion of a larger eye, making a larger and more complex subject. I like the high quality and professional look this piece provides and the defined texture in each hair strand which emphasizes the eye itself. I believe taking this photo in a warmer light could have added more color to the piece, which would have avoided the washed-out color throughout the photo. Why it is successful?
  • The photo follows the rules of composition well enough to be proficient. Colors are contrasted correctly and follow the rule of thirds. Emphasis on the statue of Mary is clear and strong. 
What you could do better next time?
  • Working on the centering of the overall image would benefit heavily. I could've used Photoshop to crop it as well as made some of the shadow tones even and proportional to the rest of the image.

For the elements of photography, I used the elements of emphasis using the trees to frame the subject matter and contrast of colors which can be seen through the dark variants on the tree branches transitioning to the bright colorful sign further helping my focal point stand out. For the rules of composition, I utilized the rule of thirds putting my focal point more of the top left of my image as well as viewpoint in which I angled myself to make the sign in the middle of the branches instead of blocked by the branches. I believe this image is successful because of how all these elements I used went well to vividly establish my focal point and the colors in this image are very vivid and diverse. An element in photography that was used was textures in the the petals and leaves. Texture in this photo could help lead the eye to the main subject. Color was also used, the green background made the pink flower pop out and look vibraint. Cropping was used in this picture to have the pink flower be the main focus in this picture. I used contrast as my element of photography through the different textures between the sand and water, and through color with the water being blue and the sand being light brown. I really like how bold the colors are, and I feel that I used my elements very well to make a pretty picture. It also feels warm like the beach, which is really nice. I used contrast in this image by contrasting the vibrant greens and reds with the bright  white of the statue, as well as the complex shape of the statue. This uses an asymmetrical balance for its composition, as it was taken at an angle and has very different halves. Though it was a little dull when I first took it, I still liked the way the composition felt balanced, despite lacking the rule of thirds. In photoshop, I made the colors more vibrant and the image more dynamic to give it a warmer feel as well as make the statue pop out more. I used leading lines for the stairs to contrast Tatiana. This helps differentiate the stairs that have a pattern but Tatiana has an asymmetrical shape that is unique. It is successful because Tatiana balances the two backgrounds: the stairs and the classrooms. The Asymmetrical balance also helps support the photo with it's natural appearance. What I could do better is the blur. The photo is incredibly blurry because I shook the camera and the photo came out blurry when I inspected the photo later on. The photo also has an asymmetrical balance which pairs well with the rule of thirds. Some other rules of composition that I used were leading lines of the street and the viewpoint from behind the two girls to show them looking off into the distance. The photograph is successful because the focal point is clearly shown through different photography techniques. I chose this subject because the style and color of the car are unique and many modern cars don't look like that. I drew the viewers' attention towards the focal point by using the window sill frame to frame the subject and color contrast allows the car to stand out because there aren't any other orange objects in the photo. All of these are elements of photography, but for the rules of composition, I used birds eye view to create emphasis on the subject since I took the photo from the second floor. I think this photo is successful because the focal point is clear and well-emphasized using elements of photography and rules of composition. Here, one of the things I tried to emphasize the most was space. In my opinion, the skyline of SF in the background really shows the depth of the photograph. I also used Adobe Photoshop to strengthen the contrast between the sand and the ocean, leading to a muted color for the sand and a more vibrant hue for the ocean water. As for the Rules of Composition, the rule of thirds was used, and there is an asymmetric balance between the water and shore, with the borderline of both materials being non-symmetric and shifting along the length of the photo. Some ways I could have improved is by using cropping to cut away at some of the excess parts of the photo, mainly the sand and washed ashore seaweed. This would give more attention to SF's skyline and the ocean, which I think could've gotten more attention. Additionally, even though I was going for a contrast between dull sand and vibrant water, there just aren't enough colors in the photograph to really catch someone's eye. I used two elements of photography, distinguishing shapes and contrast through size. The tree is a distinguishing shape because besides the land it is which isn't as noticeable it is the only object in the photo. That makes it stand out because of isolation. It is also very small when contrasted to the seemingly endless background. My rule of composition was cropping. There was some other things to the left of the tree as well as more ocean in the foreground that I cropped out because it would have not had the tree be the focal point. I think this photo is successful because of the mystery it has. There is no background to get information from, the only thing to look at is a grey sky or a tree. With so little information being shown it might make you think about it. Some elements of photography that I used in this photo are color and texture. I used color to create interest, and to capture the viewer's eye and hold their attention. I also used texture when shooting the clouds to create some variety in the photo. It also attracted attention to the lighthouse and contrasted with the different textures of the subject. I used the viewpoint rule of composition to make my photo more interesting. I took the photo between the worm's eye view and the person's eye view to make the lighthouse look slightly larger and to have a cooler scale, but doesn't take away from the scenery. It is successful because it has an interesting subject that has a multitude of patterns and shapes, but also has an intriguing background that adds to the photo. It also has a lot of color which I love. Elements of Photography that were used are lines, color, shapes, Contrast, and texture. The color, shape, contrast and texture are primarily seen in the candle as it is able to stick out in the picture. The main elements of composition that were used are asymmetrical balance, exclusion, and viewpoint. As having the hand hold the candle works well at a side angle, and the image does not look the same on each side. I think the rule of thirds was used in the original picture but I cropped out some of the space in Photoshop. I definitely think the candle pops out and works a good focal point. The background, being very simple, doesn't feel too distracting. However, I do think the background could be improved a little bit, the thing is I'm just not completely sure how. An element I used as contrast, as the sunset looked brighter with the city being dark. And the blue of the water with the ground.

For my composition I used viewpoint. With Viewpoint, I was able to make the city look "bright" with the background.

I believe my photo was successful as I took a photo with an element and composition.

The car frames the reflection of the palm tree so I used it to get the best view of the tree. An element I used for this image was contrast, by using the soft blue color of the sky behind the bright green and dark black color of the signs allows the signs to pop a lot more allowing them to be able to catch the attention of whoever looks at the image.
In this image I used the rule of thirds for its composition allowing me to move the subjects to the left from its original spot, which was dead center, allowing it to pop more with the vibrance of the bricks at the other subjects.
