Palladium is a soft silver-white metal that resembles platinum. It is the least dense and has the lowest melting point of the platinum group metals. It is soft and ductile when annealed and is greatly increased in strength and hardness when cold-worked.

Metalloids are all solid at room temperature. Some metalloids, such as silicon and germanium, can act as electrical conductors under the right conditions, thus they are called semi-conductors. Silicon for exampleappears lustrous, but is not malleable or ductile (it is brittle - a characteristic of some nonmetals).

Three common crystalline allotropes are graphite, diamond, and (usually) fullerenes.
