Since the Bugis live in Malay Archipelago, much of their cuisine is based on Indonesian and Malaysian influences. Being skilled seafarers and fishers, fish and seafoods are staples in a Bugis diet. Bugis residing in Malaysia or Singapore enjoy Malay-style cuisine while those living in Makassar still enjoy their traditional food. The most famous is coto Makassar, a stew made from the mixture of nuts and spices with beef parts.
Most Bugis are Muslims, so pork or alcohol is almost never part of Bugis style cuisine.
