"In his smart, provocative introduction Ratliff reminds us that we live in a different musical universe now, at least as regards the multitude of digital delivery systems and platforms along with the fact that “every song ever” is downloadable: total access around the clock. There has been a revolution, not so much in music itself as in how we listen to music. Our options have broadened exponentially."

"Ratliff rejects, canonical or hierarchical, and on the other, naive or poptimist approaches to listening to music, and instead looks for ways to map relationships between songs, bodies, physical space and each listener’s personal history and bank of experience that become richer with time."

I have include this playlist because the Repetition was my favorite chapter in this book and probably the only chapter that I fully understood. It was a tasteful introduction into the kinds of concepts that Ratliff would explore throughout the book.

To be completely honest I found Ratliff book rather hard to read and difficult to understand. However what I did find to be a successful aspect was the playlist provided at the end of every chapter. Since Ratliff book was about how we listen to music it made it easier to create a bridge from the concepts he was exploring to the examples he was providing. I differently do find myself being more aware when I listen to music to a certain extent now because of this book. I have enjoyed getting to dissect and explore Ratliff take on how we listen to music this semester.
