         <description><![CDATA[<div>I am obsessed with my cat (her name is Popoki). I love to be outside - in another life I would love to be a park ranger at a national park. I love to bake and cook and garden and september is one of my favorite times of year because I get to eat tons of things from my garden (yesterday I harvested a 1 pound cucumber and a tomato that was 1.1lbs!) I also like to go to concerts (although being a teacher has made me pretty bad at staying up late.)</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I really enjoyed reading this story again and feel like using the Up/Down/Both-Why helped me realize some new things about it.<br><br> I am proud that I kept revising my theme and didn't just go with the first one because it got a lot better. <br><br>I notice that my theme seems a little like it is simple and only captures some of the ideas I had about this story so I want to work on expressing a theme that feels like it captures my deep understanding better.</div>]]></description>

         <title>THEME CHECKPOINT #2</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I feel like this video captures my understanding of the deep meanings in the story so much better than my first artifact did. I am proud that I was able to get to a deeper theme that feels truer to my understanding of the WHOLE story rather than just one part. <br><br>The discussions I had with my group made a huge difference because talking about their "downs" in the beginning of the story helped me see that even though she had a house at the beginning she didn't <em>feel </em>at home. This helped me think smarter and realize that we all  have different perceptions and our feeling of being at home can come and go.<br><br>I want to work on putting my theme into "academic" written form and do a better job of explaining how I used the story to understand it. My partner said she'd help me with using the text more. </div>]]></description>

         <title>FINAL THEME ARTIFACT</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I'm so proud of my final theme! I feel like it captures a lot of the complexity I felt while <em>reading</em> the story. At the beginning of this year I had such a hard time putting the emotions and meaning I was getting from reading into words that made sense to other people. By talking with my group lots, focusing on specific words in the story that gave me the biggest emotional reaction, and making sure I considered the whole story when I worked my theme, I was finally able to say/write what I meant, which felt really good. Oh also, revising a lot made a huge difference. At first I just tweaked words once or twice, but my team taught me to go back to the text and look closely when I was revising rather than just rephrasing things without really thinking about how it fit with the words in the story that made me come up with the theme in the first place. </div>]]></description>
