SO cool. An obvious barrier would be teaching other teachers how to use it, but a quick PD could solve that!

I am the only teacher in the classroom and I worry what this will look like for students at first. I also worry about students who may 'hide' within the stations. Meaning they might not get the concept fully but I don't get a ton of 1 on 1 time with the student or the ability to address misconceptions just due to the nature of stations.

I thought about how the stations mentioned in articles would work best in my class.
-I would like to incorporate the wild card time so that students have time to re-do/catch up/ further study a topic or assignment.
-a barrier that came to mind is how often can I do stations? If there ar stations everyday is that too much? will kids take it seriously? Should stations be limited to 3 times a week so that I can do traditional lessons and targeted small group pulls?

-I thought about improving my station experience for my students in different ways, including doing teacher led, independent work, and collaboration stations.
-I would like to continue using GoalBook to access strategies. After my 20 minutes of exploring that website, I felt I had more strategies in my "toolbox" that I could adapt for virtual learning and some that I would like to try in the physical classroom space.
-I've done stations before, and one barrier is managing 4-6 different activities going on at once. Clear expectations and directions are extremely important here. This helps students independently manage time and problem solve with classmates if I am working with a specific group at a station.

The resources in goalbook was AWESOME and can very easily be tailored to specific student needs. The only thing is, some of the suggested activities were still too difficult for my "low" students. The other activities such as CVC words would be perfect for my higher students. I guess the activities are geared more towards K2.

For station rotation - the idea is really great but I wonder how doable it is with just one teacher?? I think I would feel more comfortable with a co-teacher for station rotation to work well. I really want to try it out.

Watching all the teaching videos also made me really miss my students, miss the classroom and miss teaching and being in school!!

Wow! Goalbook is amazing...I wish I had this earlier. I 'm going to need some more time to process - it's like a rabbit hole of information and ideas. I am going to use Goalbook both for SEL and for reading/writing in my ELA 10 classroom. I am excited to try stations in a more targeted way that I had not done previously by focusing on mini lesson, skill, practice, etc. I like the idea of using blended learning stations and want to read more about this. Especially as we go back in the fall, I think that this will be incredibly helpful in rethinking instruction. The only barrier I can think of to most of UDL/Station work is technology. While my school is set to be a 1:1 chromebook school next year, there is still tech out there like we viewed in the videos that our district might not have. I need to research tech that allows for more drawing capability - something I want to try in a picture notes or visual thinking strategy at a station. I am excited about researching more on my own how to use blended learning stations and what an online learning component looks like in a station rotation.

These stations gave me a ton of resources to look at to better understand the various strategies I could use to make my classroom and curriculum more accessible for all students. I particularly loved Goalbook--it's an amazing site that offers such concrete strategies for you to try based on your specific student's needs!! I loved it!
I would love to try Goalbook--I think it will be so helpful for me to get started in implementing UDL practices because I can really narrow in on how to help specific kids develop certain skills. After using it I think it will help me become more familiar with the different strategies and why they are useful, so I can start implementing them more frequently!
A barrier I thought of was also how often I could do Station Rotation with my students. I love the idea and the benefits it offers students and teachers, but I also know that a lot of my curriculum has to do with whole group demonstrations and lessons. How can I balance the two?

I think it will take some getting used to because I ended up having MANY tabs open as I clicked more and more links.
The stations were fun to explore and I really enjoyed watching videos from classrooms across the country. I think behavior issues come up a lot and this does cause barriers during lessons, but now that we have more resources available, I can have more strategies to help me in that area.

It has a lot of information within its domains but I feel once I explore and can navigate through it more I will feel confident in its use and knowing that I am using it appropriately.

For Learning centers- I thought about a new classroom setup. I would love to play around with the idea of having the students grouped in fours but still being able to face each other and see the board allowing me to still have eyes on all during the lesson and being able to scan the room to see who may need assistance or alleviating continuing behaviors in the classroom.

Barriers- The only barrier I would see is if I didn't communicate all the reasoning for why things are in the classroom the way they are with my students. I feel if you talk at them instead of with them you get a negative result. Another barriers may be how or if I am implementing a lesson or a station the right way and if I'm not then that could cause a behavioral problem so my effectiveness in implementing and executing a lesson or station.

1) I think I always viewed doing stations as a lot of effort, but after watching these videos I see it doesn't need to be. I thought they teachers were very creative when designing their stations and seemed very comfortable facilitating them, but then I imagine they have had a lot of practice. It's something I need to change my mentality about; it doesn't have to be complicated or use a lot of resources!

2) I'd love to try a 'teacher station' and a 'check-off' system, encouraging students to become more accountable. I'd also like to implement the 'wild card' station and allow students the opportunity to work independently, not just in assigned groups. Also GOALBOOK!! Amazing!!

3) For ELLs, some of the stations may not be doable without intense scaffolding. For example, I have students who are able to converse but who are unable to read. These students would not be able to work at some stations independently. I can also see students who are not 'into' a station not completing the work. By using stations, you really are expecting the students to have the self-motivation to complete the task without your input. For students who struggle in certain domains, I can see stations being somewhat of a challenge.

I really appreciated the scavenger hunt on this because I was able to see how the website works and how I can use it for individual students. Some barriers I thought about (for creating SBL) are time, resources and support staff.

1.) I so enjoyed the 'stations time'. I think chunking up material by modality (videos, articles, Goalbook exploring, etc.) was really beneficial to me because I wasn't spending too much time/cognitive load on solely one area. This made me think and relate how beneficial stations must be for students as they can adjust their thinking/parts of the brain they are using instead of being succumbed to the same assignment/task for 45-50 minutes at a time.

2.) I definitely want to try modeling my stations, the expectations of the product(s) for each station, and the materials that go along with each station. I also want to incorporate more digital literacy/instruction into my stations. Finally, goal book is definitely a tool that I will be using for ALL my students, not just my students on IEPs from her on out - I LOVE it!

3.) Some barriers that I thought of during my station time were that a.) my classroom is a converted closet, so there is very little space to separate students/stations. I do wonder how students will not get distracted by either me teaching a small group and/or the computer screen; and b.) I found that there was a lot of writing involved in this activity, and as someone who really struggles/gets anxious with written products, I felt that this was a tad overwhelming. Just like my students, I know I also demonstrate my knowledge better in other modalities!

This station inspires me to creatively think of ways to improve my teaching. The UDL helps me a lot because I could finally provide a customized lesson plan for a few students who have ADHD in my class. I used to struggled when these students made negative impact to the whole class. After knowing the three types UDL principles which are: representations, action/emotion and engagement, I start thinking of ways that my students could better understand my materials and ways they can engage better (for example, physical movement activities). Eventually, I hope to try to engage my students into a enjoyable interaction rather than forcing my students not to talk/or walk around. I currently do not think of barriers during my station time, I guess I just get to absorb A LOT methods and strategies which needs time to digest and apply!

I believe I can take a lot of these strategies to my room with some scaffolds. I liked how the main idea was to make it accessible to all- always keeping inclusive practices in mind. I can take some of these strategies when my students have inclusive time. I would like to try an independent reading section where students can use the library space of the room independently. Some barriers I foresee are misbehavior coming up during center time and independent work stations.

I now have a bank of new ideas to implement in my class when/if we go back. After going through all the stations, I realized that I really want to focus on making my centers more engaging for my students and keep in mind of providing my students with more autonomy in the classroom. I think the one barrier to implement this is the lack of resources and having my principal being on board with this model. My school focuses a lot on implementing curriculum with fidelity and sometimes fidelity is not the best way for delivering instruction for the students.

There was a lot of information and tasks to be done in this portion, but overall I think it was helpful and I will be taking away some new ideas to implement into my own classroom. Some barriers I can think of are classroom management, that is such a key part to learning in general but specifically when you're thinking of having stations in your classroom. There needs to be full commitment from your students and that isn't always the easiest, so I could see how that might form barriers for learning to be accessed.

In an ideal world, there would be more adults and specialized teachers in each classroom to be able to provide small group or one on one support to students that need it, but that is not the case. I think that it's important to change up the formats of our lessons so that each student feels represented, engaged, and challenged all at different times of the lesson and throughout units and the rest of the year.

Angel Simpson
During the station time I thought about the many days of hard work that I tried to implement some of these ideas into my classroom. Sometimes it works quite well but before certain goals can be accomplished something new comes into the cycle of teaching and a whole new approach is implemented school wide. This becomes a barrier in it’s own self. However, with such wonderful resources I would like to plan ahead for the upcoming school year using some of the great materials we looked at. One of the first things that I will do is to use the strategies of Universal Design Learning to unpack the particular standard that I will be teaching. I will also try the station base models and try to make sure that I include the individual station. I see where this could serve many of my students in an upcoming inclusive model at my school. Sometimes students need their own little space to get the teacher’s attention instead of acting out. It will also support me in getting to know my students' interests very well. This has really been a great challenge in my classroom. Now I have a solution.

I thought about my students a lot. I've been thinking about how UDL would have helped at the beginning of this year. Also, I thought about how to incorporate stations more into my classroom. I want to set better expectations at the start of the year to support this routine throughout the school year. I would like to try using Goalbook to support my students. I think this would help us both identify what the outcomes are required for the lessons during the year. One barrier I thought of is only showing one representation. I realized I need to provide more ways to show the lesson. Also, I realized that I need to preview before providing materials to my students (small print, ink too light, etc.).

The resources found in the UDL stations were extremely eye opening. I am excited to try learning centers in my own classroom. I like the idea of having students move through the learning space and investigate different tasks independently. As I start to think about the barriers that may occur in my class, I think about the age-old question of "when will I use this in the real world". Because I am teaching a language it is important that I provide the students with opportunities to not only practice the vocabulary and sentence structures but to engage in the cultures that speak the language. I should provide them opportunities to talk about things they care about and are interested in, while maintaining the Target Language. I am excited to try to provide more engaging lessons in the future!

One thing I thought to myself is how this would be most effective if I can set a clear timeline on implementations of each strategy. I would really like to master a few each quarter or 2 -4 each year. I definitely can see myself implementing station rotation more effectively this upcoming school year. I tried it a few times, and students really enjoyed it, but the planning was definitely a lot. REALLY enjoyed Goalbook, I can definitely see why this would be amazing to have as an educator. One of my task that took most of tie was preparing for IEP meetings. One of the biggest barriers I feel I face is time, during my class period we have 55mins, and in real time I am really looking at 40mins of working time with students.

I am definitely going to be more intentional with my implementation of stations. I want to be able to try different forms without overwhelming my students or myself. Some barriers that came to mind is how I only provide one or two representation of material. With relief, I recognize I am implementing UDL strategies in various ways in my classroom. One thing I tried before the school closing was station rotation. In the next school year I would like to implement this strategy early in the school year, that way students can get use to to transitions. Transitions are a challenge with readiness skills. Some barriers I thought during the stations were making sure I am not setting up intentional barriers by targeting specific needs. I can do this by incorporating additional supports during stations.

It was very important to me to learn about UDL as I see it as a model with elements that I have implemented in my classroom with varying degrees of student progress in learning. Students do appreciate opportunities to work in groups and have choices.
I really thought that the rotation station model is something I would like to try in my Science class. One of the challenges in my classrooms has been with building of comprehension applied to real world applications and acquisition of transferable skills for topics in AP. UDL principle of presentation with different modalities and the principle of choice for communication and expression will help in building comprehension to connect previous knowledge with new content and enhance critical thinking. I think that implementing choice in presentation and autonomy as a blending of guided and independent work in small groups will help my students use prior knowledge to build understanding of new content and work through discovering misconceptions , and connect big ideas , not as isolated units but interconnected knowledge. I like the idea of giving students choice because it creates interest and guides self regulation.
I reflected on my role as a facilitator to help students overcome barriers to comprehension due to symbols and mathematical representations and vocabulary terms ,on my role to provide supports such as the use of formula sheet , matching word and symbolic equations , using everyday language and analogies to describe meaning of scientific terms, concept maps, and strategies as peer review and think/share, POGIL collaborative inquiry guided activities. Some barriers could arise when setting up stations, assigning small groups direct instruction and for guided and independent work without aids or co teachers, facing issues with shortage of computers , accessibility and compatibility of online resources (paid or free access resources, links blocked in chromebooks, software for monitoring on task behavior (go guardian, google classroom) ,class management of small groups performing different activities simultaneously, implementation of flip the classroom model and engagement , time and physical space of the classroom.

I try to implement stations and groupwork into my class every day, but this made me think more deeply about how to make those stations as effective as possible for as many students as possible. I am definitely going to try more targeted stations or centers in which the students don't rotate and are instead strategically placed there to work on a skill or concept that they need the most help with. The two concerns that kept coming up for me were 1) time - both in planning and in how much curriculum we are expected to get through and 2) classroom management.

I also loved looking through Goalbook and find UDL strategies that address certain barriers a student might face, while learning a new concept. The UDL design addresses the needs of all students, because as educators we know even children without an IEP still has learning barriers they must overcome. Looking at what a student needs, instead of his/her disability is something I care most about and was mentioned in the UDL design. I am going to try the UDL lesson plan in my classroom, I love how it has all the information you need about students, barriers they might face and their IEP goals.

During this station time, I was really able to think about what my classroom could look like next year. UDL design really has been inspired that I could be the best teacher in the world. I know this isn't accurate, but after the station was over, I really felt like I could make a huge difference in my students lives. Something I specifically thought about creating stations. I want to create stations in my own classrooms where everyone can have a chance to get up and walk around from station to station. And I would also want each station to focus on a specific task that allows students to bring out the best of their strengths and helps work in weakness. I do think however it will be challenging to have students to move from station to station and not have it be somewhat chaotic, at least at first. This is something I came to have to really practice into routine. I also worry about allowing students to choose their own groups as they may choose to work with someone who may not help them learn.

- I really liked the concept of focusing on many different modalities of learning. It's too easy to fall into a "teacher-centric" or "chalk and talk" style. This style works for many students, but others may lack the focusing ability or interest level in hearing one person speak for a long lesson. However, the same students who struggle when listening to oral or written instruction may thrive when given the chance to partner with other students and take a leadership role in a physical activity related to the academic concepts. We need to always provide different access points to the same knowledge we are trying to impart.

I would like to try more rotations stations in my class, as they are a very interesting way to implement this idea.

One barrier would be that the stations could have the potential to be chaotic, but when they are implemented with a high level of expectations modeling and behavior management, rotation stations are extremely effective at reaching all learners in a class.

While I've made use of station learning, I don't think I've put enough thought into diversifying it to have students engage through multiple modalities.
I also think the review on UDL helped remind me of how it's not enough to provide multiple presentations of the same information; we also need to be providing multiple entry points, and different ways that students can represent their learning.

I am really excited to have found the list of UDL strategies that is already organized into the 3 categories on Goalbook. I’ve been on Goalbook before, but wrote it off too quickly when I saw it recommend basic strategies like “chunking” and “choice boards” which I was already familiar with. There is a lot more there than I thought and I’m glad I was pushed to look closer. For next year, like everyone, I’m thinking about how to adapt these strategies to an online learning context. So far I’ve had the most success with Classkick, which allows me to pre-record all text on the page and allows students to record responses instead of typing them. As for physical stations, I am thinking about ways to tweak them so that the noise level and time at stations works better for kids with attention and sensory challenges. I also have found personally that creating 3 different versions of everything for each station in each subject daily is an unsustainable amount of work. I’d love to figure out ways that I can find a balance and re-use station activities. I know how these activities can be repeated in early childhood and need to figure out how I can have repeating activities that work in 3rd.

I really enjoyed the set up and the pace of this station, although it was a lot, the google form helped me stay on track for the most part.
This stations provided lots of useful tools and strategies for the classroom and definitely got my brain flowing as to how I can improve my future classroom, or give advice and recommendations to folks that might need a little help in this area. I love the idea of focusing on different modalities of learning, especially given the current climate of the world. I think centers are a good way to incorportate current events and also establish and maintain social justice goals within our teaching. Next year will be tough if we remain learning at a distance, but these strategies and this coursework have definitly challenged my mind as to how to shift this model into our online learning. Barriers for this would include- internet, not enough staff to go into breakout rooms for remote learning centers, furniture in school and physical layout of classrooms.

The resources included in Goalbook are invaluable to classroom teachers, whether they are servicing an inclusion classroom or not. All students can benefit from the strategies included in Goalbook, and incorporating these strategies into daily lesson plans is good teaching. I really appreciated the organization of the strategies by targeted skill. A potential barrier I foresee are work stations in a therapeutic day school. Due to the independent nature of work stations, some stations may require additional support to self-regulate when persevering through challenging work. It can be difficult to provide this kind of support to all students in a class when they are working on different tasks.

1. Some of the things I thought about where how each student is unique and so are their learning styles. The different articles we read and videos we watched showed me that their are a plethora of ways to teach. The best way is to diversify the material so that everyone has access and can be engaged. Stations prove to be a great way to ensure that students who don’t understand can be re taught and those who do understand can move forward or teach other students.
2. Some things I would like to try is the Station Rotation model. It ensures everyone is learning the material in different stations with access to different media to assist them.
3. I think some potential barriers are utilizing and leverage the resources to ensure that everyone can use the materials to learn.

Goalbook is an awesome resource - it's amazing how many strategies there are to choose from. I feel calm knowing there is a menu of options for me to choose from and tailor to my students.

I keep thinking about how tough it might be to implement UDL principles when you are working as a long term sub with limited lessons.
I have been in a situation like this and although I would not consider my attempts to be failures I think that having things set up in the beginning of the year might be much easier than reinventing the wheel.
Another personal barrier someone might face similarly is working around behavioral issues in the classroom. If the educator does not have management handled they will likely have trouble implementing new strategies like these.
With that being said, if we make it back to a classroom in the fall I am going to get to work on stations and multiple means of expression and representation as a mainstay of how we work with new materials.

I find the station activities to be quite helpful. Its focus on how to differentiate is particularly useful. The math stations is a great way to teach equitably because it allows students to be taught where they're at and at the end the teachers brings everyone together summarize the lesson. I also like the use of technologies and formative assessment that each student takes at then end of the lesson which informed and tailored the next lesson. By doing so teachers can meet the needs of all student.
Some barriers could be a lack of fund as some of these technologies required subtantial amount of money.
