I was a quiet child when I was young, often keeping to myself and speaking only when someone else talked to me first. Despite my reserved nature, I still had a lot of friends who enjoyed being around me. My parents often told me I had a favorite stuffed toy I carried everywhere. Even though the toy became old and severely beaten up over the years, I always refused to throw it away, holding on to it as if it were my closest companion. I was a quiet child when I was young.

My mom and I were very close, and I would always feel sad or even cry whenever I wasn’t with her. We used to sleep together at night, and my younger sibling and I often fought over who would be hugged by her while sleeping. Even though I learned to talk early and could babble, I remained a quiet child, frequently keeping my thoughts to myself unless someone spoke to me first.

The most cherished sport in my school was soccer, so I naturally found myself playing it. Through this, I became athletic and discovered I was a fast runner. We often played under the hot sun, getting tanned in the process, but none of us minded because we had so much fun. My friends and I would even challenge each other to races, seeing who could reach the cafeteria the fastest. Although I wasn’t always the most academically gifted student, I learned to find ways to make studying easier and more manageable for myself. Because of this determination, I could graduate as the salutatorian of my batch, which was one of my proudest achievements.

When I was in elementary I was quite a disobedient kid, often choosing to spend time with classmates who were just as mischievous as I was. Together, we would sometimes cut classes and sneak off to eat at fast food restaurants. We loved playing Pokémon cards, using gadgets, or running around with physical games like tag during our free time. I always had so much fun that I was usually drenched in sweat by the time I went home, with a dirty and messy uniform. My parents scolded me for the state I came home in, but deep down, I enjoyed those carefree moments. Despite my mischievous streak, I never neglected my studies completely. I still managed to keep my grades up and was proud to remain a consistent honor student throughout elementary school.

In junior high, I was fortunate to pass the entrance exam for a school known for its many academic achievers. At first, I felt proud to belong there, but the journey was arduous. When the pandemic struck and classes shifted online, I struggled to keep up with the heavy workload. Then, when face-to-face classes finally returned, I found myself struggling. After being at home for almost three years, I had difficulty with academics and socializing. I developed anxiety, and even simple tasks like presenting in front of the class became a big challenge for me.

However, things slowly changed around late Grade 9 and into Grade 10. I became more approachable and eventually found friends who supported me the best they could. With their encouragement, I grew more comfortable in school, both academically and socially. Daily, I noticed myself improving, becoming more confident, and being able to leave my comfort zone.

Now, here I am in the present, in the middle of my senior high journey. I came from my province, and when I moved here for school, I experienced a strong sense of culture shock because of how vast the differences were. Back then, I had no experience speaking Tagalog or English, since I was always comfortable speaking in Bisaya. At first, I found it really difficult to hold conversations in Tagalog and English, and I was honestly intimidated by how wide the vocabulary of the students here was and how excellent they were at public speaking and impromptu speeches.

Despite that, I admired how open-minded and accepting people were. I was fortunate enough to be placed in a section where everyone had such a strong bond that it truly felt like we were all friends. Through this, I was able to build close friendships, even best friends, who have become like family to me. Stepping out of my comfort zone turned out to be the best decision I have ever made. It helped me become more independent and opened my eyes to the reality of how difficult life can be, but also how much you can grow when you allow yourself to face challenges head-on.

Now, I am focusing on college. This first semester has already been stressing my head out with the workload and new responsibilities, but deep down I know that all of this is worth it. Every challenge I face today is preparing me for the future I want to build, and I’m determined to keep pushing forward no matter how hard it gets.

1. What was your Personality Type according to the 16-Personalities Test (MBTI-Inspired Test)? Do you agree with the result? Why or why not?

According to the 16-Personality Test, my personality type is INTJ (The Architect). I agree with the result because I fit most of the criteria of being an INTJ, such as being analytical, strategic, and independent in my decisions.

2. How can your Personality Type help you become a person with and for others?

My personality type can help me become a person with and for others because INTJs are good at planning and finding solutions, which can benefit people around me. We can connect faster with others by using our strengths in organization and problem-solving. Being an architect, I can support and guide others while continuing to grow with them.

1. Was the subject Personal Development helpful for you? How did this subject help you know yourself more?

Yes, the subject of Personal Development was helpful as it provided me with an opportunity to learn more about myself through the lessons and activities. It helped me realize my strengths, weaknesses, and feelings that allowed me to make more well-founded choices related to my objectives and relationships with people.

2. What were your key takeaways from the subject?

The main lesson I learned about the topic is that self-awareness is the initial step towards becoming a better person and achieving success. It has made me realize the essence of self-awareness, setting goals, and personal development in pursuit of what I truly seek in life.

3. What two topics were your favorites and why?

The subject of my favorite topic was mental health and self-awareness. The mental health lesson helped me to be more knowledgeable that depression and other conditions are not general terms but have various forms and causes. I also gained some insight through that lesson to be more empathetic toward myself and other people who might be going through mental health issues.
