Definitely agree that keeping Google meet on for the whole lesson works well. Interesting that a lot of students prefer this method. I have found with other classes I always have a Meet first where I explain what is going on, discuss what we are doing etc. I then let them go (they can leave the meet) but I stay on for them to come back and seek assistance. I then finish with something that requires everyone to answer.

Bookwork: How are people going with this? I have just made Compass Learning tasks for the students to upload pics of their chapter work. Has anyone got a different method that has been successful?

Using the 'Classwork' tab in the Google Classroom, I created a quick ‘Survey question’ during a lesson for students to tell me individually how they found my start-of-lesson that day. Quickly I got response (not all yet) which gave great feedback for knowing this adjustment worked for most.
This seemed effective way of getting feedback from students which wasn't shared publicly in the 'stream' or 'chat' in Meet. Many students prefer this private way to communicate it seems.
