I feel that Johnny loss his innocence in many ways throughout the book. The first way was through his whole childhood. He found out how to be independent (without his family) because his family never properly cared for him. The second way was by killing someone (eventhough it was self defense). Johnny knew that people could get killed in fights, but he didn't ever think that he would have to kill someone. He matured because he found the bad of the world. Last of all, Johnny matured with Ponyboy when they ran away. Johnny knew how it felt to live without family, however he never knew how to live without his whole gang/friends.
