Twitter - Saving our Planets Species

AccuWeather has created and posted a video on Twitter with facts about our planet and the species that coexist with us on Earth. This clip highlights information that is less known to the public, hoping to get more support from social media to allow society to realize the bigger picture. Many individuals fail to recognize that Earth is built for humans as well as animals and plants. The Earth must be sustainable for all types of life which refers to the weather, land, ocean, etc. For example, as the climate changes, the birds are unable to fly south for migration and therefore are struggling to live in these conditions. As well as the ocean creates a home for fish and plants is being polluted with humans garbage puts these species at risks of extinction making it harder for them to survive.

Earth Day Network - Protect our Species

the main focus for Earth Day in 2019 was to "protect our species". The year before was concerned with the end of plastic pollution, and the year before a different subject, and so on. This topic is very important because over the years, many different species are going extinct and/or endangered. This is not beneficial to the animal chain because although it may not seem important to us in Canada, this can affect the food chain and how animals live. The most prominent species that was the focus is bees. These help to pollinate plants therefore we can consume these crops. An example of big company helping with the protection of species is Cheerios. They created a campaign "bring back the bees" that entails every box of cheerios purchased will donate sunflower seeds to help bring back the bees.

Instagram - Plant a Tree

This account was created to allow social media to spread awareness about the amount of trees that are cut down daily to create more condos and building, disrupting the earth's natural features. The caption clearly highlights that each like will help to plant a tree. The goal is to plant 500,000 trees to help save the Earth. I believe this was a good idea built into Earth day because majority of the population are social media users and have an instagram profile. The simple but meaningful method of promoting awareness will only take a few seconds to like the post which will eventually make a huge difference and go along way. Trees are essential to our everyday life because they provide us with paper, wood, and most importantly, clean air and oxygen.

This informational video was posted to twitter by a blog named Wired. Climate change is happening as we speak and this video displays the significance of protective factors to help keep the Earth a safe place to live on. Many people brush climate change aside because they don't believe it is relevant to their everyday lives and refer to it as a future problem. This video describes how sea levels will rise by 6ft by 2100 and how countries that used to be cold will raise in average temperature by 4 degrees celcius by 2100 which may stunt the growth of plants and put many animals at risk. People do not realize this is not healthy for our planet and a change needs to be done in order to keep Earth stable for countless years.

This tweet focuses on the pollution problem in the world. This problem focuses on the over use of plastic and how it affects the world. The stats within this link describes 9 million ton of plastic ending up in the ocean every year. This link encourages you to pledge to help reduce the amount of plastic used daily. By taking the pledge, the goal is to reduce the amount of plastic in the ocean by 1 billion by year 2020. The pledge already has 237 million. When beginning the pledge, it gives you options such as straws, utensils, bags, bottles, etc to reduce as well as how many you reduce each by weekly. By the end of your customized pledge, it will describe to you how many plastic you will prevent from entering into the ocean. This is good to know as an individual and user of plastic because you don't know how much you use until you are told.
