The Fine Arts, mainly the Visual Arts, aims to stimulate the scientific and emotional intelligence of mankind. Its application is greatly vast that in every generation, there would be a person, or a group of people who would dedicate their lives to the arts. We can then say that Fine Arts, more than its aesthetics, is a catalyst that bridges the human genius into enriching the quality of one’s life. By saying that, it is broader than just a subject that enthusiastic and able people occasionally venture into.

The Visual Arts requires one’s creativity and ingenuity. They are not only reflections of reality but a fantasy of what could've been, and what has been, therefore they are not time-bound. As such, they let out more colorful pathways into the essence of the art itself. They are outlets to release one’s emotions in an expressive, productive, and positive manner akin to therapy. With this being said, the Visual Arts are for everyone who wonders.

Another significance of the Visual Arts lies in the process of how one perceives them. It lies in the way that one takes in the meaning of an artwork, understanding what the artist aims to make the audience feel. Every person has their own free will to see a piece of art in any way they deem fit. In Fine Arts, we are required to keep an open mind. We are required to think with a multifaceted approach. Art is wide and broad—our perspective should be as well.

When you ask someone what the arts are meant for, a common answer would be for one’s entertainment or enjoyment. While these answers are not wrong, they simply cover the surface-level purpose of the Fine Arts. Through St. John Paul II’s Letter to the Artists, we can infer that the arts provide a deeper significance to society which is to express God’s creativity through human ways and forms. Through this, the artists are tasked to create aesthetically pleasing masterpieces that capture the interests of human beings to bring praise to the ultimate Creator.

Lastly, St. John Paul II mentions that “beauty, like truth, brings joy to the human heart,” and “the visual form of the good, just as the good is the metaphysical condition of beauty.” From these two statements alone, we can immediately see the purpose that visual arts serve for humanity. The visual arts serve to enrich and cultivate the human soul, by bringing out joy, and expressing beauty. The visual arts serve as inspiration for humans; a way for humans to get a glimpse of the metaphysical, or even, as St. John Paul II said, “the ineffable.” Simply put, we believe that the visual arts are important for the whole of humanity for two main reasons: expression of the human soul, and so that other humans can peek inside the soul of other realities. The visual arts for man is a portal into the indescribable.

As craftsmen (Letter Of His Holiness Pope John Paul II To Artists, 1999) uses something that already exists, giving form and meaning to it, Man has always been naturally capable of appreciating beauty which also makes him knowledgeable on the truth and its goodness. Generally, Fine Arts all communicate to everyone its truth, goodness, and beauty from behind its creation. Such three main aspects are the foundation in which one's actions strive. For instance, at the practical and moral level, one seeks what is good in the art. At the intellectual level, one seeks the true meaning behind the art. Lastly aesthetically, one also seeks beauty. Hence, visual arts help oneself deepen his understanding and widen hisperspective as it could be applied in one's daily life from the knowledge gained.

Albert Einstein mentioned: “True art is characterized by an irresistible urge in the creative artists”. With man gifted as creative beings, they, from their intellectual minds, also by their unique hearts, desire to put color in the uneventful and the plain, to put emotion into something which does not, and to “set the mood” as others would say. Personally, Fine Arts is a distinct field that promotes one’s feelings may it be: sad or happy, glorified or depressed, sometimes even persuaded. Moreover, it encourages man to express himself in an outward manner, placing his interiority into the exteriority of the outside world for everyone to see as creative as possible.

Gilson (1966) mentioned Man invents as many fine arts as he finds in the nature of the different material substances. Besides the textures and figures displayed explicitly, fine arts also conveys an implicit approach that is typically inspired by the artist. By putting the physical appearance of a certain craft aside, Fine Arts also encourages its audience to appreciate the story or message behind its creation, which then allows them to be curious and explorative on the meaning used behind it.

By taking the audiences’ perspective into account, appreciating art is not just about determining whether it’s pleasing or not. Hence, it is about finding the meaning and appreciating its message, regardless of political, personal, etc. Art does not only revolve around its physical aesthetics, but it obtains a huge array of valuable meanings requiring one to become more open-minded hence making constructive criticism in order to fully absorb its worth. Overall, Fine arts can be perceived, not only as a subject appreciating art, but also as a tool for developing one's mental beauty, particularly in terms of making objective judgements.

In conclusion, AMORSOLO was able to emphasize certain significance one could gain from Fine Arts besides being products of display. On the contrary, the group mentioned Fine Arts as a platform capable of deepening one’s understanding and perspective, medium expressing one’s outward manner, and a legacy evoking valuable story or message/s. Meanwhile, it is also considered as a tool capable of enhancing one's mental beauty by looking into the audiences’ perspective.

REFERENCE:

Gilson, E.

Art is described as the manifestation or execution of human creative talent and intellect, usually in a visual medium such as illustrations, creating items to be admired predominantly for their aesthetics or emotional strength, or as this recreational thinking resulting in the production of illustrations, music, literary, and movement. Fine arts is evident everywhere. However, we may more easily recognize it in the pieces made by artists across centuries. Fine arts is defined as the art of showcasing the aesthetic of art. However, what is it for? Is it for me? Is it for society? One of its purposes is to strengthen what can be conveyed to people through art. According to Wayne (2017), the goal of fine arts is to train the human eye to be conscious of shapes, strokes, colors and mood to understand the overall message and theme. It is similar to science in the sense that it leads people down a road of discovery, where they make sense of the unknown and look for answers through questions, observations, and so on. It continues to spark people’s imagination and fuel creativity more.

The method of manufacturing art is more concerned with the aesthetics and the emotions it evokes in both the producer and the receiver. To deliver art, the creator must have the requisite thought pattern, that appears to him spontaneously in a flash or as a result of an endless lingering cycle. When carried out with utter zeal, whether innate predisposition/organic or carefully nurtured over time, succeeds in utter pleasure for the creator and enthuses the audience. In specific words, beauty is the impression that an eyewitness has when perceiving art. The artist and receiver involved in the process of art or element are both responsible for the excellence of any artwork. As the artist aims to execute on his/her artistic renderings, the viewer must be in the right headspace to attain the ideal sensation of beauty. It entices people to return for more of the same, as this beauty is what is remembered. Every art is the accomplishment of mankind overall, and the fact that it is symbolic of human excellence contributes to the intensity of this beauty. Art is beauty that produces exquisite sensations in the recipient unceasingly.

We know art to have inherent beauty, and in any form it takes, one must acquire a certain aesthetic level to perceive the art in more enlightenment--this includes the need for introspection. Therefore, we are obligated to take on this challenge. The visual arts intrinsically possesses beauty, but it takes a trained eye to spot and relate to this. So from this we ask, what must we do? To wholly understand how art affects our perceptions in life, we simply must practice absorbing the art. Fortunately for us, there is abundance of the visual arts and it is seen all around us. From this, we conclude that our role as viewers in the manifestation of art is as important as the artists who create it.

Source(s):

The Permanent Observer Mission of the Holy See to the United Nations.

The Fine Arts or Visual Arts, is a form of art that needs to be appreciated by being seen like paintings. The Fine Arts were important in the past because they narrate the events in the bible and allow us to visually experience the important historical events. An example of this is the Sistine Chapel, where multiple paintings depicting important events in the bible surround this marvelous architecture. Therefore, the Fine Arts connects us to history in order to better understand the past.

The Fine Arts can also represent the thoughts of an artist. When the artist generates an idea, he eventually gets his materials and crafts a piece of art. The Artist then tells a story through his art with his own interpretation. He expresses what he feels or what kind of person he is using his art. An example of this would be Van Gogh’s Starry Night, where the artist expresses his depression when he was in a mental asylum. Another example would be “The Scream”, which represents the mental trauma, stress, and anxiety that Edward Munch was going through during his time. However, the artists allow their viewers to have their own interpretations, using their own imagination. The great thing about Visual arts is that it lets its audience interpret art with different perspectives and that there are no right or wrong answers based on how you view their artwork.

Aside from the notion that the Visual Arts satisfy his viewers by giving them delight, it also helps in shaping a person and forms us into a fully developed society. According to the letter written by Archbishop Bernardito Auza, he emphasized the power of beauty, a great manifestation of truth and goodness, as a way of elevating our mindsets. Our exposure to the visual arts brings about a realization that can incur good changes as individuals. Our engagement with the visual arts, no matter how overlooked, has influenced our perception of reality; making us realize how the world ought to be by establishing the transcendent common good. The involvement of beauty in the achievements of humanity has guided our behavior towards thriving for cooperation and contemplation. Disregarding the importance of visual arts narrows and corrupts our vision giving us a fraction of reality which subjects us to minding our own self-interest with no regard for peace, human dignity, progress, and the common good. This makes visual arts not just for amusement but a fundamental part of our society that must be given its rightful value.

Overall, the Fine Arts is for everyone because it allows an artist to express themselves and communicates with the viewers through their artwork. Anyone can be an artist not in the specific sense of the term, but in the way you live your life. The Visual Arts is the bridge that connects us all and allows innovation and the human soul to meet that in turn drives us to pursue truth and goodness.

The aim of Fine Arts depends greatly on both the artist and the spectator. It can serve as a kind of catharsis for the artist through the realization of his talents, aesthetics, and intellect. The Fine Arts are also used as instruments to help in the development of communities as it is applied in various professions. It plays a significant role within its own environment, with its very presence contributing to the cultivation of cultures.

Those who create art in order to make their own tangible representation of reality, regardless of whether it be based on their own or others' experiences and emotions Some artists use the visual arts to paint images, while others only use it as a way to focus on their own skills or as a hobby. It is an avenue for expression for the artist as well as well as highlighting his talent, expression, and intelligence. Alternatively, it can portray social problems in relation to the current affairs of the times by illustrating the society's experiences and concerns.

Another thing to note is that while creative works serve the artist, they also serve the audience On the other hand, when one is presented with a work of art, such as a painting or sculpture, multiple emotional and cognitive responses can be probable. There are those who use art to admire the object for its beauty, and those who use it as a way to create emotional symphonies. The use of the fine arts also helps society by doing many jobs. When it comes to fashion, design, fine arts (and design) are the basis for all kinds of employment. Additionally, in the academic field, it supports the visual learners.

Those who learn best through seeing, not the ‘typical’ traditional model of reading lengthy journals for concrete details or writing definite, unique commentaries, can thrive in a schooling system once believed to favor a certain ‘type’ of academic student. The fine arts, in particular visual arts, employ the general public or a single individual to look up from the world’s distractions and constant responsibilities, just for a moment, and be captivated in awe of the marvel we call life through one artwork. A diverse set of emotions and conclusions has the power to inspire someone to put forth positivity in their small social circle yet also jump start a revolution of change (ie. Black Lives Matter “I Can’t Breathe” symbolism in art). A glance can say so much in such little time to encapsulate and further explore social problems that plague society. A macro scheme consists of a number of micro perspectives, all coming together from a rallying message behind a single visual art, that simply in its own quiet way, speaks volumes needing to be echoed across the universe and back.

The term "fine art" was coined to distinguish works made solely for the sake of artistic expression from works created on commission or objects with functional purposes that fell into the category of design or decorative art. Painting, sculpture, architecture, literature, and poetry were all considered fine art in the past. Fine art pieces, especially in painting and sculpture, are made primarily for aesthetic purposes and to fulfill an inherent desire for creative expression. Any of the most famous and well-known works of sculpture, such as Michelangelo's "Statue of David," Leonardo da Vinci's "Mona Lisa," and Gustav Klimt's "Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer," are officially not considered fine art since they were all commissioned by patrons.Modern paintings like Marcel Duchamp's "The Fountain" and Vincent van Gogh's "Starry Night" fit the concept of fine art because they express the artists' own intentions without the constraints imposed by a patron. Film, sculpture, experimental painting, and printmaking have also been included in the classification of fine art in recent years. In conclusion, fine arts exists for the artists who wish to express themselves and their intentions through art without the limitations set by the patron of arts.

The origin of the word “art” can be connected to the Greek word “techne” which means skill. It implies the fact that artworks were made by trained individuals and were typically bought by the wealthy people to serve as attributions and confirmations of their status. Through these art pieces they pay homage to beauty and aesthetics.

The term “fine art” then, refers to an art form practiced mainly for its aesthetic value and beauty rather than its functional value. As the centuries went by, scholars began to distinguish the relationship between science and art, and art subsequently became a term to describe creations that please the senses. Fine arts mainly encompasses painting, sculpture, architecture, music and poetry. It was used to differentiate works by artists who serve as the sole agent of creative expression from works that were created by commission, or objects with utilitarian functions.

During the 19th century, the notion “art for art’s sake” arose when artists grew increasingly more inclined to use art as their freedom of expression. In the modern era, the area of fine arts is constantly extended to embrace and adapt new activities arising because of the new technology or some artistic inventions. It became less about aesthetics and more of a marker for refined taste that shifted to challenging border notions of art. Fine arts can be further divided into several categories as visual arts, auditory arts and performance arts.

With this, fine arts may not only be defined for its aesthetic value but it can also be relative, expressive, and imaginative which makes the essence of every art. It is made by how the artists render their creativity, thoughts, perceptions, and feelings freely through their art pieces.

Above everything else, art is a form of expression. Lose that expression and art becomes purely technical and systematic. That being said, the Fine Arts is a form of expression. What can be considered to differentiate the Fine Arts from regular art is the intention and the refined techniques used. On the aspect of intention, the Fine Arts are not created for material gain like money and other tangible desires. Instead they are made for the sole purpose of expressing. Should the expression succeed in execution, material gain, though not the purpose for creation, will follow. On the aspect of refined technique, Aristotle claims that there should be good measuring and proportion for an art piece to be considered beautiful. Despite art being creative, diverse, and inventive, there is still a method and process to perfection and that is where technique becomes significant.

The definition of Fine Arts can be likened to that of the regular arts. This puts into question the significance of Fine Arts if a similar definition can be applied to the regular arts. We can divide the significance into two parts: the significance from the perspective of the artist and from the perspective of the beholder.

From the perspective of an artist, the Fine Arts serve as an ideal or goal for their creations. This standard is what pushes an artist to hone their artistic skill to better their artwork. Technical skill dictates the degree of expression an artist is able to convey. Therefore, a honed skill set will allow artists to convey more expressions in more and better ways than they were able to.

From The perspective of the beholder, it serves as inspiration, a story, a memory, a message, and history. There is always intended expression behind the Fine Arts and each expression is meant to be understood and comprehended the way the artist intended at least, initially. Afterwards, art can be open to interpretation which is where the subjectivity of the commoners come into play. The Fine Arts can be considered as means for learning. Applying critical thinking skills, rationalization, logic, and interpretation, allows the individual to work on these skills so that they are able to apply it outside of visual arts. In a sense, Visual Fine Art is a different method of education. Where some excel in auditory learning or on-hand experience learning, Visual Fine Arts is a means for visual learning.

First and foremost, fine arts is often confused with decorative art or applied art. However, that should not be the case. Decorative or applied art is focused purely on aesthetic value and consumer needs while fine art has a strong focus on its intellectual content and conceptualism. Keeping that in mind, fine arts involves creative expression to convey an emotion or explore social commentary. This disciple includes paintings, sculptures, architecture, music, and film among others that are products of one’s freedom of expression. For instance, Ramona Pintea makes use of her creativity to inspire and empower women through her paintings. The emotional and cognitive impact these works of art have on viewers, specifically women, is what differs fine arts from decorative art. Its impact is so big that it can create unity amongst women from all walks of life to stand up for each other. In conclusion, fine arts is not created for an assignment or for monetary value, but from the inner and innate need of the artist to evidence their response to the world. In other words, it is created to satisfy an artist’s intellectual and aesthetic needs, as opposed to being commissioned, and satisfying the desires of others.

Man, the only intellective creature, has always been using his power
and knowledge to create many things which serve different purposes. Inventions, theories, and structures are all amazing feats as they address problems, add on to general knowledge, and provide for many of man’s basic needs. But there are also things which man creates whose purpose is generally questioned: the Fine Arts.

Quite a few have argued that the Fine Arts serve no real purpose aside from aesthetics. This argument barely touches the surface of the real purpose of the Fine Arts. Contrary to this, Fine Arts, specifically the visual arts, has three main purposes: to help man in grasping and experiencing beauty itself, to help in developing a clearer understanding of the world, and to help in forming ideal and upright persons.

Firstly, the Fine Arts enables man to get a hold of beauty and ultimately appreciate it. The visual arts are made by man for beauty and are appreciated by man for its beauty, either through the subjective preference of laymen to enjoy the art, or the objective criticism of experts admiring the art’s intrinsic excellence. That said, the visual arts serve as an avenue for beauty to be recognized and appreciated in all forms, allowing delight, wonder, and admiration from man. Delving deeper, beauty, revealed by visual arts, feeds man’s rational soul, and is therefore, sought for and valued. With man’s continuous demand for beauty, the visual arts have evolved through the introduction of new styles and techniques, allowing man to create beautiful objects in various ways.

Secondly, the Fine Arts enriches people’s expression and broadens their perspective, allowing them to have a clearer understanding of the world. Diverse stories, history, and cultures are reflected in the visual arts that can be objectively or subjectively interpreted — it, therefore, cannot be limited to one sense. One form of art would not be appreciated by certain people while others find it profoundly beautiful. Art is a gateway for a multitude of expressions and enrichment where all kinds of people from different backgrounds come together to exchange perspectives from their internal worlds, which are vibrant with subjective experience.

Lastly, the Fine Arts humanizes man, shaping him into an ideal and upright person. To put it more concretely, the humanistic formation can be fostered through the Fine Arts. For one, the Fine Arts is used as an avenue of expression for one’s history, social climate, and experiences. With this, man becomes more empathetic towards others, yielding more meaningful human connections. In a practical sense, man learns to determine the real necessities of people especially when solving real-world problems in today’s technological climate. Likewise, as the Fine Arts allows us to immerse ourselves and witness the beauty, we then strive to treat everything in a way that we do not tarnish its beauty — we do not pose harm to natural resources, landscapes, and other forms of art (Auza, 2017). Rather, we act in our power to preserve the beauty around us.

Reference:

Auza, B. (2017, May 10).

Fine arts represent reality. Art is concerned with the most “human” things, thus, Visual Arts encapsulate the beauty of man and animal. Artworks reflect the reality lived by artists and are a product of their time.

Fine arts allow for expression and communication. Through brush strokes, colors, gradients, size, shapes, textures, and other elements, visual art captures moments, experiences and emotions in a rich and vibrant way, on an emotional level, which delivers messages other forms of communication cannot. Visual art communicates through images allowing those who look at and appreciate them can get an understanding of the original message, and at the same time give it their own interpretation and definition, creating a connection where one speaks from the soul and into another, fostering understanding and appreciation of the world

Fine Arts also serve as a way for humanity to be closer to God, not only through the depictions of what is biblical such as the stories and the saints, but also through the creativity needed to create each art piece, and the understanding needed to appreciate them, which can only come from God.

Fine arts anchor the past to the present. Artworks are a reflection of their time, serving as a window to the past, showing us through the subjects of the artworks what was held important by society during a certain period, letting us know through the emotions invoked in us what the people of that time were probably going through. They are a visual representation of a time we do not get to live. They are a legacy left behind. Yet the common thread of all art throughout time is that they capture the human experience, no matter the technique, subject or sentiment, and as such, those who experience this art, no matter how far into the future from when it was created, feel a connection which transcends time, giving art significant historical and human value. Visual Arts survives through time, which helps with the survival of tradition and culture themselves.

Fine arts brings beauty to the world. In his Letter to Artists, Pope John Paul II said that mankind needs beauty especially in times of problems and challenges. Archbishop Auza, our world would be a dull place or emotionless without art and that beauty can unite people from different generations and places through shared admiration. This is why Fine Arts, a representation and manifestation of beauty, and a tool for contemplation, enjoyment and self-satisfaction, can inspire humanity to live a life that is full of beauty and joy.

Fine arts bring value to the world. Unlike other fields such as the Sciences, the value of art is not in its rigidity, usefulness, price or utility. Its value is in the feelings and emotions it evokes within someone, in the connections it fosters. Art is meant to be enjoyed and appreciated, not used. The value they bring cannot be measured, only appreciated. Since the value they bring is a necessity for humanity, art is priceless.

Bettina Maranon
In the context of Catholic tradition, as discussed by John Paul II, the visual arts can be seen as a means of both outward communication and inner contemplation. For the artist, the arts are both a manifestation of the productive capacities of man, as well as an intimate disclosure of the artist's own inner world. In appreciating the beauty of these arts, viewers glimpse into the deeper mystery of creation. In a general sense, the visual arts are a vehicle for man’s experience of beauty, which inspires both hope and goodwill in the beholder.

Kierran Relucio

The Humanities helps us distinguish ourselves from materials, animals and man.

Fine Arts, branches from the humanities allows artists to show emotions through their artwork. Art causes the viewer to experience what the artist is feeling, thanks to the Humanities and Fine Art.

The Humanities enrich our lives through fulfilling our desires to discover who we are as people, We need to create something we are proud of, like a goal that will reflect our values, show love to our friends, family, and partner, who we love, and love us.

We should not value materials, but instead moral values, sentimentality, knowledge and our own creations.

In business, people who have a humanistic perspective are successful because all jobs require humanists, because the job requires one to have people skills. An example of this is the President of General Motors, who stated that "What is good for General Motors is...the Humanities."

Summer Simbulan
Through creation, man will find true happiness. Fine Arts challenges the artist to reveal the sliver of knowledge they obtained over time, while still remaining open. Viewers perceive the work and make constructive or personal judgements; this enhances their creativity, deep thinking, and openness. Fine Arts tends to link beauty and spirituality, as God is the source of creation, all things beautiful. To such an extent, Fine Arts fosters spirituality and strengthens faith in one’s beliefs.

Pio Santos

There is no doubt that there is beauty in any aspect of life. Whether it be in poetry, music, religion, screenwriting, or acting, as discussed in the video titled “The experience of Artistic Beauty”. Although the video talks about beauty in different forms, there was one central idea that was brought up, which was objective and subjective beauty in the arts. Such things are evident in all the topics brought up, and the video teaches us that beauty is not just something that we can see, it is also something that we can learn to see or after seeing it multiple times.

Franki Tabago

Art and beauty are both necessities for the betterment of the world, according to Pope John Paul II and Pope Francis. This is also the same for Russian novelist, Fyodor Dostoyevsky, who asserted that “Beauty will save the world.” Not by solving its earthly problems but by delivering one to a complete life. Also, through art, one can be raised in spirits in times of crisis. Furthermore, through the appreciation of beauty, Pope Francis said that it's a way to avoid self-interested pragmatism. In other words, the appreciation of beauty prevents one from treating everything without appreciation.

ORTIZ, Naiomi

PARINAS, Marianne

PAYUMO, Martin

PAZ, Angelo

PANTALEON, Francisco

PIEDAD, Jino Gabriel

Art is a diverse range of human activities involving the conscious use of the creative faculties of man to express technical proficiency, emotional power, and conceptual ideas. In other words, art is the expression of beauty. “Beauty”, as Aquinas said, “is that which pleases upon being seen.” By seeing, Aquinas refers to the sight of both the eyes and of the soul. The eye apprehends beauty and the soul contemplates it. But since beauty is both subjective and objective, the subjective taste takes first place. Our personal preferences and taste dictate whether something is beautiful (or pleasing) or not, depending on the characteristics of artworks such as line, color, texture, sound, shape, etc. Beautiful art, therefore, is the successful portrayal of the artist’s most profound intended emotions and ideas.

In art, however, beauty can be construed in different ways, depending on the sort of art. Fine arts is a subcategory of the arts. But within the fine arts, there lies another subcategory: the visual arts. It is in the visual arts that Aquinas’ definition of beauty can be clearly understood. The nature of visual arts is precisely that which can be apprehended by the sense of sight; hence, “visual”. Therefore, it being the “visual” arts, falls exactly under Aquinas’ definition as “that which pleases upon being seen.”

The purpose of visual arts can be viewed in two dimensions: practical and theoretical. By practical dimension, the visual arts (painting, sculpting, and architecture) encourages people, specifically students, to express themselves creatively as well as academically. Students learn to assess, evaluate, and examine ideas through the visual arts. They also learn to interpret problems and develop their analytical reasoning abilities. Especially for children, the visual arts can help bring out their creativity and develop their personality. The visual arts help them think abstractly and improve their mental and imagination skills.

But more importantly, the theoretical dimension proves that visual arts can be considered a fundamental human necessity. It is an essential component of the human experience because it reflects our reality and the circumstances in which we live. It helps us understand our history, culture, politics, and the experience of others. As the common saying goes, “the eyes are the windows of the soul.” True enough, the visual arts please the eyes to satisfy the soul. Seeing something beautiful stimulates something spiritual in man. To hear or to feel something beautiful does the same, but to a lesser degree than seeing, because the sense of sight is the first receptor to beauty.

The importance of visual arts is of the highest degree that it would not be an exaggeration to claim that it is necessary to human flourishing. Though the visual arts have a practical utility, its theoretical (or spiritual) dimension is far greater. The form of any art is, in a way, is beauty itself. So, the beauty from the visual arts penetrates the soul and seizes both the sensible and spiritual faculties of man.
