As said before, Junior Associates at the bottom of the social pyramid which is a law firm. Just look at the name. Junior Associate. But hope is not lost. Junior Associates can preform well enough to impress the higher class of lawyers, Senior Associates, and they'll move the Juniors up. But one could be stuck as a Junior for as long as 11 years. So until that day comes Junior Associates are stuck making $85,000 and doing what the Partners and Senior Associates don't want to do.

Senior Associate. One would think that this would be a significant upgrade from being on the bottom of the totem pole, and that is partially true. But this post comes with its own worries. See now the Seniors have a certain amount of time to show the Partners that they are good enough to join their little club, or they'll get the boot. If they get the boot, they'll either have to find a firm that'll take them or be stuck doing a lone practice. Senior Associates make money, $118,000 to be exact. They're going in trials and doing what they went to law school to do, but there will always be that knowledge that at any point the boot could come until they make Partner.

At any point throughout a lawyer's life, he/she might want to move to the only place where the term "dog eat dog world" applies more than in a law firm. Politics. Moving there, the lawyer will need to run for a certain office. This will likely be any state title, unless the lawyer is just an extremely influential partner. But running for a state office, likely a state senate seat, will matter on the political party, area in which one is running in, and the campaign. But once in Political arena, it is addicting. In the offices of the government comes the actual epicenter of the state , and the country
